Love your picks, especially your mention of Ludlam who's so underappreciated -- one of the almost forgotten geniuses of 20th century theatre (too bad Everett couldn't have held onto the Ridiculous Space in Sheridan Sq.).

Thanks for remembering the Jones-Plummer OTHELLO (I saw it on tour when Diane Wiest was Desdemona and a then completely unknown Kelsey Grammar as Cassius). I'll never forget the "reputation" scene -- Plummer and James Earl Jones summoned so much fire and intensity together that I almost expected lightning to strike the stage.

CLOUD NINE was/is a true modern classic (BTW, Churchill's "A Number" will be at NYTW this fall starring Sam Shepard, who'll be acting on stage for the first time in decades -- he's said that "A Number" is the most important theatre piece written since "Waiting For Godot").

Urgh, this is too hard.
Perhaps "The Beauty Queen of Leenane", but I loved "The Straits" so much, as I did "The Man Who". All in very different ways.

A Raisin in the Sun. it's the only PLAY that i have seen and it was PHENOMINAL!!
Going back to Noises Off, which I listed earlier, I would like to clarify that as a play I think it is fantastic, I'm not sure if the recent Broadway cast would have been my favorite cast in that show. I enjoyed it a lot, and I think its one of my favorite plays but no one can compare to John Ritter's performance in the movie adaptation.
"An Inspector Calls"
The Broadway revival in 1997 was amazing and the sets were fanstic.
And to itsucks2BaveQ: You are so right.
Was I the only one who thought that Frozen and I Am My Own Wife were two of the best dramas in years???

1) Our Town
2) Oleanna (by David Mamet)
3) Arcadia (by Tom Stoppard)
4) Anna in the Tropics (when I saw it, the actors weren't stellar, but I really liked the storyline and I did enjoy it.)
the best play I've ever seen is "Compleat Female Stage Beauty" at the Old Globe in San Diego. has anyone else seen a production of it? i believe a movie version with Billy Crudup played Tribeca this year.

Two of the best plays I've seen in their original stagings were "How I learned to Drive" and "Mother Clap's Molly House." I also loved "The Goat" (uh, see my message board name),"Jitney," and "Dirty Blonde." Among recent plays, the top "so-bad-it's good" play would have to be "Prymate." My mouth was hanging open by the end--it was like watching the non-musical version of "Springtime for Hitler." By the way, Broadway Matt, I did see "Compleat Female Stage Beauty" in Philly and found it very compelling. I am looking forward to the film version.
