so I just got back from seeing the national tour of The color purple the cast was amazing. but I just wondering if there were any major changes between the broadway production and the national tour. character changes, choreography, set ECT
The tour as of date as a few changes--
Nettie and Celie are now teens, instead of little children, at the very beginning of the show. Also, some of the sets (such as Harpo's house) are scaled back greatly. I saw the show in San Francisco a while back and it was more like the Broadway one with the bigger sets and small children in the cast. More recently saw the Sacramento one and it was scaled back a bit.

well It still was a really great show and it worked without them.
There was also a turntable on Broadway and there is no turntable on tour, but this has been discussed ad nauseum.
It opens here in Denver on Wednesday. I hope to see it. Loved it on Broadway.

The cast was fantastic they brought the house down right away the tour is a must see.
we had an understudy on for ceelie and she just sang her heart out I was amazed there was a standing Ovation right away. even though there is no turn talbe there is an automated track.

The tour had one little set piece come floating out during the song "The Color Purple" with logs, vines and some purple flowers on it.
Celie turned and stroked the plants like she was a Price Is Right model and then the set piece just floated back off again.
That looks so cheesy, but I was told later that the piece as much bigger before they cut it down.
They should bring the show back to Broadway at a reduced ticket price, they could do great biz $88 orch seating and $40 uppers
