The good luck continues for Spiderman..

AEA already got off its butt and approved to move ahead.

Sounds like they sagged right back down to me.

Of course it's not the office worker's life or limb that's at risk, is it?

It's not yours, either. But despite what more qualified experts and those directly at risk have to say, you know better, right? You don't even have to be there to know how to do everyone else's job for them!

You have to question "authority" and take it to task to get it to do its job, unfortunately. And it's everyone's job to do that.

Obviously those rigging inspectors back in November didn't do a good enough job given this new "rigging" injury, did they?

And everyone should be on their case for it, on AEA's case for it, and same for the Director and Producers.

The actors can't speak up without fear of getting fired, so it's very important for everyone else to speak up on their behalf, and for their Union, collectively, to act.

Aside from your own assumptions, the actors have a responsibility to speak up if they fear for their own lives and safety. If you believe what you are saying, then the actors are choosing to sell out their own welfare for a paycheck. Maybe they are and maybe they're not, but that is their decision.

Personally, I think that the actors, who've invested a huge amount of their time into this show, desperately want it to succeed, and this is why they're going on with it.

But this brings up an interesting question: If an actor didn't feel safe in going on with this show, would they be compelled by their union to go on anyway?
Behind the fake tinsel of Broadway is real tinsel.

The good luck continues for Spiderman..

AEA should not be making pronouncements about the cause of the injury as "human error" or anything else as it may be against their injured member's best interest for them to do so. AEA doesn't know what it is doing and they are not looking out for their members.

It even seems to be a weirdly self-serving statement of the AEA staff to try to act like it is not their fault this happened, when back in November they were well aware of serious injuries occurring and of the lack of adequate safety inspections but have failed to demand adequate safety for their members.

Actually, before the stunt, someone said "Good Luck" instead of "Break A Leg".

Bailey, you're alive. Jordan will be so pleased.

You have to question "authority" and take it to task to get it to do its job, unfortunately. And it's everyone's job to do that.

Isn't that how this all got started? Isn't Julie being vilified to push the envelope and challenge/question "authority" and the "norm"?

If an actor didn't feel safe in going on with this show, would they be compelled by their union to go on anyway?

I would have to think they would investigate the issue.

Of course I am alive. So overwhelmed by all the Spider threads.
AEA announced "human error" because it wasn't their "human error".
The truth will come out, and everyone will move on.

This show is VERY challenging to all associated with it, and the vast majority are proud to be working on it. ALL the actors know the potential risks.

I don't want to see ANYONE injured EVER, but why such a focus on Spider-Man injuries? Do you know how many CHILDREN have been injured at Billy Elliot?? Where is the uproar??

I have no idea what that means.

But that's just it...she isn't doing anything that pushes the envelope. While we haven't seen a show like Spider-Man on Broadway before, the types of stunts and aerial work have been done for years in other venues.

Where on earth did she get this reputation for being a visionary, anyway? She spends lots of money to make enormous shiny things from above-average-but-overblown design concepts.

You know who's a visionary? Simon McBurney.
You know who's a visionary? Tony Kushner.
You know who's a visionary? Ariane Mnouchkine.

I just don't understand what she has contributed, artistically, that has garnered her this reputation.

^ The design of The Lion King was pretty spectacular, even if I didn't feel particularly warmly about the show on the whole. I think that's probably responsible for like 80% of her reputation because it was such a huge hit, but her reputation's quickly dwindling.

I hate responding to fools, but what the heck. The human error was not actor-related. In other words, some other union screwed up. Therefore, they were happy to say it. If the actor was responsible for his own equipment, they might not have been so quick to announce "human error".

And yes, Billy Elliot should be ashamed of themselves.
