It closed on July 2nd.
It was a limited run. It was supposed to end last year, but it kept extending until it finally ended. It was a masterpiece that is certainly missed by many. It was shown live on TV on PBS' "Live From The Lincoln Center."

Posted: 8/12/06 at 4:04pmIt's on tour throughout the USA. Maybe you could plan a side trip? It's well worth it. I saw it in San Francisco and I didn't think it would be something I would like, but I did like it a lot.

Posted: 8/12/06 at 4:05pmThey do not release episodes of "Live From The Lincoln Center" on DVD. Maybe somebody has as extra that they could send you.

Posted: 8/12/06 at 5:19pmIf your trip to New York is the second half of December, the brilliant touring edition of the show (Daily Variety review on Wednesday actually said in many ways it is equal to or better than the original) will be in Washington, D.C. at the Kennedy Center (December 19-January 7th)- an easy trip from NYC - so maybe you can catch it there with a quick train trip. It is well worth it. Before that it will be in Los Angeles Oct. 31-December 10).

Legally Blond is NOT going to Lincoln Center, but it will play the Palace.
As for Light...it still might end up in London at some point.

Posted: 8/26/06 at 5:21pmLight in the Piazza was a non-profit production at Lincoln Center. It was not on a commercial contract, so the hit/flop status is not a factor.

Sigh.
As has been stated, with a not-for-profit production, there are no profits or losses (in the commercial sense), which is why it can't be a hit or a flop and why you can't really say that it made or lost money. Not-for-profit economics are complicated to explain, but there are no investors to pay back, they simply have a budget made up from a combination of public and private donations, income from subscriptions and individual sales to the public. Some of that money is used to mount productions, but some is used to pay for salaries of staff, rents, capital improvements, office and utility costs, insurance, etc... plus money is set aside for the theatre's endowment. At the end of the year, any money that ticket sales brings in over and above what was budgeted towards production costs, simply goes back into the theatre and will be used towards future expenses.

Posted: 8/26/06 at 6:40pmThanks, margo. I didn't realize it was non-profit, just limited. When it kept extending I assumed they were doing it for the profit.

They kept extending it because everyone who saw it creamed in their pants and danced around with delight after the show.
Okay, maybe that's not why.
