I want to go as Carmen Ghia... easy costume: black turtleneck, jazz pants, and a very large necklace.
hellooo
last year, i went as eponine from lesmiz, which actually works well because if u go to parties w/o theater people they think you're anastasia from the animated picture, so nobody's looking at you wierd.
i wanted to go as elphaba or glinda this year, but since there's a wizard of oz audition comming up i don't want to be seen in costumes that i'll later be typecast for (i'm going for the dorothy role).
anybody have any ideas? i want a glinda-ish, flowy bouncy POPULAR costume, even if its not glinda.....
other plays to get costume ideas from 4 u guys:
- jeckyll and hyde
- seussical
- hairspray ( i might do it just for the fun wig)
- little shop (the dentist or the street urchins, or it can be a couples thing w/
seymour and audrey)
- fiddler on the roof (easy to find costumes for this)
- aida (the female character costumes are relatively easy to get made)
This year I'm going as Mimi from Rent in her LMC outfit, but am very afraid that I will be mistaken for a prostitute. I'm really beginning to rethink the design of the costume. I'm not supposed to be a whore!
ooo scary, yea i'd rethink it....it depends a lot on where you're going to go...if u'll be somewhere where there aren't going to be many theater buffs around (like i usually do), u may wanna pick a costume that doubles as something else (for example, sister amnesia from nunsense = random nun costume) so that u dont have to spend the whole night explaining...depends on u really....

TheAudrey3, you absolutely must go as Carmen Ghia. It'll be such a relief to know that somewhere out there, my gay lover is scaring little children just as much as I am in my Anastasia gown.
Alright, how doofy will I look if I hang a sign around my neck that says "Mimi from pulitzer-prize Winning RENT" so people don't think I'm something that I most definitely am not? How do I avoid this problem?
you could also say you're an 80's dancer? i dont remember the costume very well =S

Great Great Great Costume!
Norma Desmond.
It has little to do with Halloween, but it is theater costumes. Remeber the episode of Golden Girls where Blanche and Rose were in a production of Cats? great, really cheesy costumes...but too overdone for the real world...I suppose :)
The bad thing about dressing up as a broadway character is...when people ask you who you are, you have to explain your whole costume. Anyways, when i was in 5th grade (i think) i dressed up as an ensemble member from ragtime. I had a brochure from the show and picked some random guy in the picture. I had a fake beard (made outa fabric), my dad's old suit, my dad's old vest, and gym shoes.
I'm going out as a vampire this year. It's overdone, I know, but when I saw Dracula I got the idea. I found these great contact lenses kind of like the ones they wear in the show during "Life After Life"...
I thought Matt's joke was spectacular!
i'm going as stanley kowalski in "a streetcar named desire"..
I thought about Eponine this year, but decided against it. You have to be REALLY poor to not be able to pull off a popp person costume LOL That would be me!

I'm considering to go as Philia from A Funny Thing...
It's not difficult... just a pretty toga. right?
ooo... do u all think Eva Peron is too random and people would be confused?
oooo... i really wanna go as Janet from Rocky Horror, but I duno if I could walk around in a white bra and a white underskirt thing-a-mo-bopper at school all day. Maybe I could wear a long dress shirt over it? Isn't that part of what she is given or something?
p.s.- will one of u guys be a Naked Boy Singing? hehe
Past theater-related costumes I've done are Grizabella (it was my first serious attempt at costuming, ie: really bad), Bombalurina, and Rumpleteazer. I just finished a Kit Kat girl costume and I'm waiting for an occasion to wear it.
I've been the Phantom several times. It's a prety easy costume
Last year my friends were Roxie, VElma and Billy Flynn. They looked really cool.

bway baby, if you go as bway's rocky horror's janet, you have to rip off your bra @ the end of your big #...best go as eva peron....you just need a big voice(and hair)...

I'm playing Philia right now, and I'm so busy with previews/random clean up rehearsals that I don't think I'll have time to come up with anything, so I shall be going as Philia. My costume is a white flowy slip with a cream colored blouse that is decorated with gold trim.
I've done so many theatre related costumes, some of my favorites:
Sister Robert Anne from Nunsense at age eight (that one got some odd looks, just picture a tiny eight year old running around in an over sized nun costume)
A "Fosse" dancer at eleven ("Steam Heat" to be exact) which was a compromise between my mother and I- I wanted Maureen's cat suit.. she didn't like that idea.
A very tame mother-made version of Mazzepa from Gypsy at twelve- complete with trumpet.
Wicked Witch Of The East from Wizard Of Oz, (before Wicked) which consisted of striped tights, ruby read slippers and a house made out of a cardboard box that covered my upper body.
Last year I was Mrs. Lovett from Sweeney Todd. With pie.
last year I was 'Without Love' Penny and this year I am going as "Checkerboard Chick" Penny!! WOOT!

maybe I could go as a cast member from Oh, Calcutta.
I have wanted to be one of the "towel girls" I call them from Aida for a few years now it would be really easy considering they sold the towel there for a while just need the glitter..oh and the body to pull it off!
