Don't you guys think Hairspray is a very theatrical show? I can't imagine "Mamma, I'm a Big Girl Now" or the energy when Tracy appears on stage singing "You Can't Stop the Beat" transferring well on stage, specially without its original creative team. Maybe Rob Marshall will be able to make something good out of it but without Harvey Fierstein, Jerry Mitchell, and Jack O'Brien, I don't think the film would be that good.
I hope that if they cancel the project it's not because The Producers and Rent flop; The Producers' trailer is pretty funny so I'm pretty sure it'll work even for non-musical theater fans, I'm not so sure about Rent but I know all of us who support this show, Larson, the actors, and movie musicals will see it as many times as our budget allows us so it'll work.
