Posted: 2/18/08 at 11:23amI hope not. Not the biggest fan of Pippin ..and I just love the Nederlander too much to let that show take it over.

In my IDEAL world, Bare would somehow magically get a production and move into the Nederlander. Which.. there's absolutely no reason to beleive that will actually happen, but I can dream, right? :)

Posted: 2/18/08 at 12:30pmYou know what I noticed last night sitting in the 2nd row for RENt? ONe of the pieces of broken dishes that decorate the perimeter of the stage is a little tile from CATS...broken in two of course. Never noticed it before.

Posted: 2/18/08 at 12:30pmNo, this show is a product of the 70's and not worthy of a revival that doesn't use Fosse's work that made this show half way decent.

who said it wouldn't use Fosse's work?
If Reinking did it with CHICAGO, she could very well do it with PIPPIN.

I love your ideal world SNL!

Posted: 2/18/08 at 1:18pmI think there's such overhaul potential for Pippin. People need to get out of the mindset of how it was originally done and just start over from the top. I think the story itself is very powerful, and the music is terrific. And the Nederlander would be a good space because it's already a bit run down looking and the point of Pippin is that everything is being created in front of you by a ragged group of performers.

I can just see Kathleen Marshall or Wayne Cilento doing a typical half-assed version of what used to be a great Fosse show.
I can't stand the PIPPIN score but love watching the DVD from the national tour with Chita Rivera and Ben Vereen, it really was all about Fosse's seamless staging and his great performers.

I don't know anything about the business of theater -- let alone off-broadway -- so forgive the naivety. But why does it cost so much money to put on any of the above mentioned productions in a 300-400 seat house? Is it unions? rent? licensing?
Clearly its not lost on anyone that they could sell out limited runs with a reasonably priced ticket. However its another thing entirely when when you're talking about the prospects of recouping even a modest, million dollar production.
What prevents these shows from being produced in the city like they are regionally without breaking the bank?

I would LOVE EITHER Pippin OR BARE. don't think either will happen any time soon.
I happen to think that Pippin SCREAMS Fosse...but that could just be me. I would welcome any reincarnation.
(Has there EVER been a revival of Pippin?)
