Things For Tony Hosts & Presenters To Retire?

1. The "you're all winners until you're losers" bit... we have some form of this every year and it's tired... I don't need to see Bryan Cranston show his losing face when we could've heard Judith Light's complete speech.

2. The "if you like Broadway you're gay" schtick. Ben Platt's "if you're watching the Tonys you're gay" dig is old, tired and complete trash.

Any others?

As an atheist I was happy with the lack of references to God like, when was it, last year or the year before, every acceptance speech had it. Only SJB made a reference and hers seemed like a random off the cuff response after saying “Thank God.”

Im gay but I don’t get all the gay shtick and what was with the rainbow flag backdrop at the red carpet? These are the Tonys, not the GLAAD Media Awards.

Happy to see the respect of time during the speeches, and only a couple winners wanted to continue after their spotlight went out and the orchestra started.

I guess you don't get the preshow . The theme this year was Gay Pride. It is part of paying respect to World Pride 50 Years since the Stonewall Riots.

it’s a tired schtick but they can hate it personally but love it monetarily

im tired of seeing so many commercials about HIV but that’s not part of the hosts

i’d like to see more award speeches and less commercials

tbh so many of the bits that take up time are annoying though i like to see the broadway stars in the audience getting some airtime

They're never going to cut commercials. I appreciate how for the most part they didn't cut off anyone's speeches (unless someone was getting really self-indulgent). And you can argue the success of the medleys but I thought a lot of performances from the shows felt longer than usual.

But yes, I'd like to see the comedic bits cut in favor of more awards on the telecast. This year had a weird energy like Corden was just doing bits from his show, even down to featuring his parents. And yes, Andrew Rannells, Laura Linney, Audra McDonald, etc. are incredibly charming and more game than attendees at other award shows to participate. But just get them to present or actually host the show themselves. Or maybe go host-less in the sense that there are bits written for presenters instead of Corden awkwardly soliciting participation (even if it's pre-planned). This is still one of my favorite moments from recent years and it didn't need NPH.
