What do you guys think of a possibility of a production or a revival of BOM that has the leads gender-swapped?
The first question would be: Why?
If the leads swapped genders with each other, they would both still be male so not sure I see the point.
Mormon women don't go on mission. They make Mormon babies.
There actually are female missionaries. My sister is one, unfortunately.
Sounds like a gimmicky idea that serves no purpose.
Pointless
This makes almost as much sense as an all male production of The Vagina Monologues.

It wouldn't make sense to storytelling that the creators created.
I would LOVE to see an all male production of The Vagina Monologues. :)
^^^^^^
Tobias Fünke would have to star.
CatsNY -- is that very new? Is it becoming COMMON? I would imagine (from what I know of Mormonism, from friends that are) that it was not an easy change.

They did a female version of Hello at Twisted Broadway in Australia (which is the same as Broadway Backwards) a few years ago. It was well done, but I don't think it really added any deeper meaning or extra humor to it. I can't really see why you would do a gender-swapped version of the whole show.
That being said, I also couldn't see why you would do a gender-swapped version of Hamlet and yet my drama teacher at school thought it was a brilliant idea.

Women Mormon missionaries have been pretty common since the 1980's. Men would go when they were 19 and women 21. It has recently been changed to 18 for men and 19 for women.
And I agree - swapping genders for this show seems a bit pointless.
