Saw the production Tuesday night for the 4th time and IMO, this production just gets better and better. Sorry you didn't care for it.
I saw Quentin and Kenita in the Papermill production. Quentin is in a totally different league now. His portrayal of Coalhouse has grown by leaps and bounds. The night I saw it, Kenita couldn't hit a right note for the life of her. Her performance was painful to listen to.

It's funny many of you mention the volume. When I saw it in previews (and granted, I was in the front row), the volume was ear shattering. I wonder if they altered that aspect throughout previews.
I know that the show has already closed so this message is a bit dated. I'm a bit biased, however I thought Stephanie did a really great job as Sarah. Sure, she wasn't 100% all the time and she probably won't be winning a tony like Audra did for the role, but for the most part I loved her performance and was totally wrapped up in it. I saw her as Sheila in HAIR last spring at the Connecticut Repertory Theatre and she was absolutely amazing, not to mention one of the sweetest people you'll ever meet. I can't wait to see what she does next!
