i've been looking at Craigslist and Ebay and NO ONE is bidding on these tickets or they are mostly selling at face value...and there are a TON of them. what gives? is it just too early in the game for the frenzy to start? i figured this would be so hard to get tickets to!

what do you all think?

I heard somewhere it was hard to get a ticket. Strange there are so many out there. Maybe it is not selling as well as I heard.

It's selling very well, but there's not really a buzz about the show yet. There is little, if any, advertising and the only people that seem to be talking about it are Broadway people. It's not high profile yet. I blame it on advertising, if it is not selling as well as it should. With big stars like Julia Roberts and Paul Rudd, the show could easily be entirely sold out if they ran some TV ads and ACTUALLY put Julia Roberts' name/face in a prominent location.

well, i was flipping through a gossip magazine and saw that they mentioned that Julia will star in "Three Days of Rain" and she was walking around NYC. And it was a major publication. Anyhow, why do people feel the need to post these threads all the time? i read this before, just because Julia is in the play, it should be sold out? I mean, she is a huge star, but are people here worried about her economy or what? she is already rich. And for the record...if they have a lot of tickets available, that is good news, so whoever didn't get tix like myself yet, have a chance to see the play.

With the exception of some partial view seats for Wednesday matinees, the show is completely sold out for its entire run. There frankly wasn't much left except rear mezz after the Amex pre-sale. That's why the producers haven't bothered with any advertising -- there's nothing left to buy. Whatever tix are on Ebay and Craigslist were already purchased at the box office and now people are trying to resell them. If there are tons of them left available, oh well -- the scalpers apparently played themselves.... boo hoo. Julia and her producers have already made their millions.

I find it a valid question. Why would Denzel in Shakespeare be a harder ticket than Julia in a contemporary play? Playing in the great bard's production of MacBeth didn't do much for Kelsey so I don't think it's a matter of starring in the classics. Personally I'd much rather see a "big fabulous wealthy moooovie star" in a new play.

Well, Three Days of Rain isn't a new play.

And JULIUS CAESAR was never entirely sold out. It did extremely well - but it wasn't impossible to get tickets to.

Roberts is actually a harder ticket than Denzel Washington. Three Days of Rain is 99.9% soldout and has been 99% sold since the first day tix went on sale to the general public. Attendance for Washington's Caesar was in the low 90s and even had a few weeks in the 80s (though the show did end up recouping).

New play vs. classic doesn't seem to matter. And tv stars often have problem translating their fame into theatre box office success. Probably because people are used to seeing them for free and aren't willing to shell out $110 to see them in person. Movie stars are a rarer and more valuable commodity.
