Hi all - I am looking for plays with very dark themes.
Something along the lines of THE PILLOWMAN or DEATHTRAP.
Nothing by McDonough though.
Also, the more intimate the better!
Thanks!

Oh, I love Marat/Sade...but what could I do that Peter Brook hasn't?
(That movie was beyond brilliance!)

What about Tryst? Have you seen it? Very intimate, only two characters. Really enjoyed the production, although the ending wasn't a great surprise.

Peter Vice? Is that like Peter Brook? Or is there someone connected to Marat/Sade named Peter Vice?

Peter Vice is just like Peter Brook.
The question is, where the hell did Peter Vice come from?
Thanks for the suggestions.

Eh. When I saw the thread title I immediately thought DEATHTRAP, but I see you've already covered it.
(A note on that, though. Maybe everybody else on Earth is already aware of it, but DEATHTRAP is dated and only works as a period piece. I say this because I was in a production of it back at the "turn of the century", and our director only saw it as a contemporary piece. There we were stuck on stage trying to present our lack of computers and "shockingly taboo" homosexual storyline as current to our audience. They were not fooled.)

Thanks for the tip, waiter.
I think I've crossed it off my list anyway.
I know exactly what type I want.
Something of dark comedy.
Something I can do something different with. Be abstract...
I dunno.

Third VERONICA'S ROOM. Cool little play that isn't nearly well known enough.

Thanks guys!
Katurian - don't think Brecht hasn't crossed my mind.
How about something less on the horror side, and more psychologically scary...

Maybe FESTEN.
You said no McDonagh, but all of this plays seem to be what you're looking for.

I know. That's what makes this search very aggravating.
Plays by Tracy Letts also work - though I've got them covered (Killer Joe, Bug)
