As much as I like going to shows during the evening, it really is easier to go to a matinee. I wonder if more shows should do the same.

What happens to the people who bought tickets in advance for a Wednesday evening performance? I guess they will have to exchange them or get a refund...

When was the last time a Broadway show did Thursday matinees? (Not including Grinch or special runs...)

You're a Good Man Charlie Brown had Thursday matinees. I also think at one point they did 3 shows on Saturdays as well.

Wow. This is a really cool idea. I saw the show on a Saturday night and no one was there. I was wondering how they could stay open with that being the case, but this just answered my question.
It'll be interesting to see what this does for the show. I'm intrigued.

I think this is a great idea! Now I have a better chance of seeing it.

Great to see someone trying something different with their schedules. I've often wondered why momre shows don't have Sunday night or Monday night shows. You'd figure Disney would have a show running every night like Cirque does in Vegas.

Golda's Balcony added them as well, where they were quite successful.
I suspect A Catered Affair is drawing on much the same audience pool as Golda's Balcony was- little, old ladies who come on their senior center's bus trip.

What a great idea.
Well I didn't want to get into it, but he's a Satanist.
Every full moon he sacrifices 4 puppies to the Dark Lord and smears their blood on his paino.

I've never understood why, on Broadway, all matinees are on the same days, Wednesdays? (I know some show do have slightly different schedules). This prevents a great deal of theatre goers from seeing as many shows as possible during a trip as they can obviously only get the one matinee in. In London's West End, shows spread matinees across the whole week, except on Mondays. If a person has a four day trip in London, for example, they could possibly get 3 matinees in, where as in New York, that is impossible. 'Phantom' in London, last year, changed its Matinee from Weds to Tues to get a greater number of the matinee theatre going crowd.
I was told many years ago that the Broadway situation was due to the unions or something, maybe some, kind, person could explain.
A young actress with Noel coward after a dreadful opening night performance said to him 'Well, i knew my lines backwards this morning!''
Noels fast reply was ''Yes dear, and thats exactly how you said them tonight'!'

So, it's nice to know that I have tickets to tomorrow (Wednesday) night's "cult show for ladies over 40".
One thing I always like about going to London for a week of theatre instead of to New York, is that in London you can see two shows almost every day -- and sometimes even 3. I too don't understand who or why it was decided that all matinees need to be on Wednesday and Saturday only on Broadway.

This should be a great move for them. I saw the show at a recent Wednesday matinée, and it was pretty packed-- all with older people who then got back on one of many buses lining the outside of the theater. Another matinée should do better business than a night show.

There's no union rule stating that the weekday matinee must be on Wednesday, it's just tradition.
