"It had better not be Taylor Swift who gets Eponine, that's all I'll say..."
I hope it's not Lea Michele. Good voice, but overrated as an actress.
Live singing is just asking for a lot of hate from today's audiences who aren't even used to pop artists doing songs in one take, let alone "live." They're so filtered and auto-tuned, I wonder what they'll make of Jackman's voice going off key as he climbs over a barricade. Authentic? Sure. Acceptable to the masses? We shall see.
It's one thing standing still on a bare stage holding a microphone. It's another thing fighting a battle in the streets or lying in a bed or brawling in a bar and singing "live."
I hope they at least entertain the notion of overdubbing in post, if they need to. They do that much with dialog in non-musical films.
They can still tweak and finesse the audio when sung live/recorded on set; AutoTune can still/will be used when not recorded in a studio.

"They're probably waiting for the holidays to be over to make any more cast announcements. Nobody's paying attention right now."
Now that the holidays are over and rehearsals begin this month we should hear the casting announcements for Eponine and Cosette any day now. Jackman must've meant that the rehearsals start at the end of the month.
I sure hope so. It's weird that we've only heard about five roles definitely being cast so far and the project was announced well over a year ago. All the other names are only rumors or "in talks".
Either they're keeping most of the cast a secret, or they're having problems getting the actors they want. Helena Bonham Carter has been "in talks" for Madame Thenardier for months now. You'd think by now she'd either be hired or passed over for someone else.
If they don't wrap this up soon, Jackman won't be available anymore (he's filming Wolverine starting this summer), and without Jackman there isn't going to be a movie.
So... I can't actually FIND this on Ramin Karimloo's website, but one of his more punctuation-challenged fans just posted:
Just read this on ramins new website: “with a film to shoot next year, he’s certainly not one for hanging around.”
And what does my poor little hopes think - OMg!!!! Les Mis film cameo! Please oh please oh pleeeaaassseee
I know im just setting myself up for disappointment but i couldnt help it
http://beautifullenigma.tumblr.com/post/15261578821/why-does-my-mind-do-this-to-me
Can anyone actually find anything like that on Ramin's website or social media? I may just be missing it.

I still say everything is on track and they just haven't announced things to the public.

On his website it looks like he's on tour in May. He's in Les Mis as JVJ until March 3. Other than that I don't see anything related to a movie.
Ah, I found it. He apparently has a separate website from his record label.
Already thinking about ideas for his next album and with a film to shoot next year, he’s certainly not one for hanging around.

According to Twitchfilm.com Amanda Seyfried has been offered the role of Cosette. Not too sure how true this is. Updated On: 1/3/12 at 08:32 PM
Why would they offer her the role if they were auditioning unknowns!!!???

Maybe she has been offered the role but it could not be worked out yet - hence the call for auditions?
I hope the news is confirmed and Amanda eventually accepts the role!
Universal Pictures was behind her superhit musical MAMMA MIA! -- maybe that previous affiliation might influence her decision. Hope so!
More news!!!
Taylor Swift offered Eponine
Well, now the same site is saying Taylor Swift has been offered Eponine.
Since I honest to God cannot see Hooper making such an idiotic move, I doubt that either story is true. IMDB says Seyfried is currently filming 'Lovelace' and it sounds like that's going to be in production for a long time, too long for her to be available for Les Miz.

We don't know when the actress playing Cosette will need to be available to film her scenes. Who knws she may not need to be available until April if filming starts in March. We'll just have to wait for official confirmation for all of this. I remember reading a post at IMDB that said Hooper was "working with" Swift so this can possibly be true.
Why would Hooper want Swift to play Eponine? I mean, seriously, why? She looks nothing like the role at all. She can't act. She can't sing. With all of the other talented actresses out there who could do the part, why would he choose her? All she has going for her is she's pretty and she has a huge fan base, which Hooper doesn't need because he's already got Hugh Jackman and Russell Crowe.
Considering that this casting move would wipe out any chance he'd have of anyone taking the film seriously, I will be truly flummoxed if this turns out to be true.
What is "twitchfilm.com?"
I'm completely perplexed by this news IF TRUE. I know people love to complain about movie musical castings, but this one would take the cake in terms of what-the-****ery.
I'm skeptical about swift too but the producers and Tom Hooper must have found something in her voice and ability that screamed Eponine.
I don't trust these any more than the "advance leak" about Jamie Campbell Bower playing Enjolras ... which turned out to be false.
well we will have to wait until an official statement comes.

In his Theatre Talk interview ( with Riedel and Haskins), Jackman categorically said that rehearsals will start at the end of January 2012.

More info from Hugh, in a story about his one-man show and starting TropFest in NYC:
*You’re starting rehearsals for the movie adaptation of Les Miz later this month. I read that there are going to be no prerecorded songs — that you’ll be singing live on the set. Is that true?
Yes, I believe we are going to be singing live. We will obviously have to do a safety prerecord, because when you’re singing you’ve got to have all the music in your ear, and I’m guessing also for quality of sound for the soundtrack. And sometimes when you film there are noises — smoke machines, things like that — where the actual sound on set may not be usable. But most of it we’re going to be singing live, which for something like Les Miserables is essential. You don’t want it to feel like it’s all done in a recording studio, nor do you want it to look like the actors are miming the whole thing. I wouldn’t know how to do that. I think it would take more work to mime it than to sing it.
*Les Miz is such a beloved show. Does that add pressure? Or make you more motivated?
More motivated. I auditioned. I went hard for the part. I wasn’t sitting back waiting for this one. This is one I really wanted. I feel, weirdly, that all the things in my life — particularly my professional life, which has been close to twenty years — have been converging to this point. I feel very lucky and blessed to have been in movies, and I feel lucky and blessed to have been in musicals. I’ve been waiting a long time to combine the two, and to be able to do it with something like Les Miserables, it just feels like a pinnacle.
*Do you remember the first time you saw Les Miz?
Yes, I saw it in Australia for the first time, actually. A mate of mine was in it and I was completely blown away. I’ve seen it three times now, not including the PBS specials. Actually, the very first song I used as an audition piece was “Stars” from Javert. It wasn’t right for the musical — I was auditioning for Beauty and the Beast so they were like, “Why are you singing ‘Stars’?” But I was coming out of acting school and my acting teacher had made me sing that one song, so it was the only thing I had music to.
*What about the physical transformation? Jean Valjean changes so much during the show.
Well, it’s an eighteen-year span, so he’ll go through a transformation during the film, but when we start he is in a labor camp. He’s described as a “great ox of a man,” so as [director] Tom [Hooper] says, “I don’t want pecks, I don’t want you to look like you’ve been to the gym, I want you to look like you’ve been hauling ropes to get ships into the shipyard.” I’m literally starting training in a half-hour. I’m about to go into a whole lot of squats and pulling ropes and pulling myself up ropes. At the same time, I don’t get to eat any fun stuff because he wants me to be lean in the face like I’ve been in a labor camp. But then he gets rich and goes to pot, so that part will be fun.<<
