Viola leaves an incredible legacy behind him at BC/EFA. He deserves his retirement and his successor has big shoes to fill!

Congrats to Tom Viola, who's done so much hard work and devoted his great heart to 36 years of serving Broadway Cares/Equity Fight AIDS.
As the press release notes, Tom's raised over $300 million under his leadership, and earned a 2010 Tony Honor for Excellence in the Theater.
I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to work with him when I produced ''The Leading Men'' concerts for BC/EFA (2005-2009).
Tom's always been such a gentleman and generous spirit, and I'm gratified that another class act, Danny Whitman, will take over BC/EFA in 2025.

It's smart that Viola had been grooming a successor and that will probably help with a smooth transition.
As opposed to some of our other institutions of late where there's no obvious internal candidate to take over.
It's possible that some of these outside hires will not last because of clashes with Board & staff or a difference in artistic sensibilities.
