Stephen Colbert, Lin, or Billy Porter would all be fun
Hogan,
I think most people in this thread are just naming who they would like to see host, not necessarily predicting who it will be.
And those who are making predictions are doing so mostly by looking at the criteria for who might best tick off the boxes based on the information we have. Namely, people who are (a) famous enough to potentially be good for ratings (b) have large personalities that would lend well to hosting, and (c) either have ties to the Broadway community, or have previously expressed a love/support for the theatre community.
As for availability and willingness, we would have no way of knowing those things, unless the artist has a public conflict, or has publicly expressed interest before (which, in John Mulaney's case, I believe he actually has). Beyond that, we have no way of knowing. So if we were to abide by your logic, there would be no point in having this discussion at all. But what's the harm in speculating based on the information we have? Let the powers-that-be worry about the logistics!
Anyway, my vote is also for John Mulaney (not as a prediction, just as a wish)

As much as I love Billy Porter as a performer, he was pretty horrendous on the Oscar red carpet this year. I don't think hosting the Tonys would appeal to his strengths. Have him lead the opening a la Janelle Monae? That I'm all for!

i spat out my water. thank you for this
@JBroadway, to be clear, I have no problem at all with the wishin' and hopin' (or guessin' posts. I was reacting to the ones that seems to be a strain of the (unfortunately too common) sense of entitlement we sometimes get here.

Considering Beetlejuice closes the day before the Tonys, I really don't think he would do it this year, but I think he'd be a great host in the future!
