re: Tony Awards Host To Be Announced Next Week

For the sake of ratings which will ultimately add health to the theater scene, let us hope the host is:

Billy Crystal

If Rosie felt that Bway turned its back on her, surely she wouldn't have appeared in the Actors Fund Pippin benefit? And she shouldn't feel that way in any case; the simple fact was that not enough people liked Taboo to generate the right kind of word-of-mouth.
"Sweet summer evenings, hot wine and bread / Sharing your supper, sharing your bed / Simple joys have a simple voice: It says why not go ahead?"

I want Harvey and Dame Edna.
Dueling Edna's.
What a blast if they both were in drag.
And then they could do the unthinkable, get the cast of FB to do various impersonations throughout the whole show.
Megan as Idina.
Christine Pedi could do Dame Edna in front of Dame Edna.
Simard could do Chenoweth.
A blast.

Billy Crystal or Dame Edna.

And what's with the Hugh Jackman backlash?!?! Yeesh, ya fickle bastards.
Word. Word, indeed.

re: Tony Awards Host To Be Announced Next Week

I'm pretty sure that HUGH JACKMAN was already announced for a third year a month or so ago. The statement could have been retracted and I missed it, but I was sure I read that his wife announced that he was asked and accepted. Like I said, something may have happened that I missed - but Im pretty sure its HUGH again.

While I thought he was LEAPS & BOUNDS better last year and that the telecast last year was an all around wonderful Tony telecast - I still think its time for somebody different. When I watch those ROSIE tony tapes she was just sooooo good and there was a sense of community and respect when she hosted that no other matched in recent years.

Bernadette is ALWAYS a favorite to host, but placing her with a leading man to bring up the TV Q ratings is probable.

Carol Channing, Carol & Julie, Rosie, Bernadette & Hugh, Norbert & John, Matthew & Nathan (although this would work better next yr), Elaine Stritch, Whoopi, Brooke Sheilds & Hugh or several others would all be great choices!

Question is do we want a great show or a MARKETABLE SHOW?

I think Whoopi or Billy would do both. Maybe the two of them together? Just thinking of what the opening number could be makes me smile.

How about Kristin & Taye? They have some TV appeal now.

The year Taye Diggs hosts the TONYS is the year I stop watching.

Actually The Avenue Q Puppets would be fun.
Kate, Rod, Ricky, The Bad Idea Bears.
The Bad Idea Bears could hiss at the winners.
Trekkie could hit on some of the winners.

Yes! Seth would be awesome!!! As much as I would love a "good show", I think a marketable one is the way to go. The ratings are always so low for the Tony's, I'm just scared they will yank the telecast. I live in San Diego so the Tony's are the only way I get to see broadway shows.

I think you all seem to forget the backlash in the press over the Tony's being "too gay".

Harvey in Drag as host? Never. Gonna. Happen.

You aren't going to find any Broadway "only" types hosting the Tony's. Rating are at an all time low and the only way to not have them go sub-nielsen is to keep a hollywood name as the host. Sorry. But that's the hard truth.

Oh,
I bet Rick Lyon could design some puppets of the nominee's.
Now that would be a blast. Maybe they could auction them for Broadway Cares.
The TONYS would be a blast with Ave Q Puppets.
Rod could talk about George W. And TREKKIE could bash him.
And they could bring at the George W Puppet from the debates.
Maybe Lucy could have a fling with a Clinton puppet.
The possibilities are endless.

Except for MasterLCZ's idea, every single one of these suggestions will guarantee greater audience shrinkage than even George Costanza's dip in the Atlantic Ocean caused.

No no no-- Chris Rock just blew our secret and told EVERYONE that only Gays watch the Tonys! This year I want to see butt sex in the aisles! EVERYONE in Drag. Every piece of music must be set to a dance beat. I want the audience to rise up and hiss that Nathan Lane isn't gay enough! I want to see Liza Host with a squadron of Liza-ettes (An hundred and twenty drag queens all dressed as Liza)! I want to see a gay show that makes Will & Grace look like...well...Will & Grace!

While I would like Hugh to host, I think that to do it three years in a row is a little much... based on this board's reacting, they'd be saying 'everything old is old again'.
And if she'll say, "My darling, I'm yours!" I'll throw away my striped tie and my best pressed tweed, all I really need is the girl...
