No, love, as they said before, they pick them at random. Those shows could very well still win in their categories. They just pick one to try to time the awards, they're not "losing" shows.

Forgot to add:

They do "introductions" before commercial breaks with the actors (in costume) from the show saying lines to the effect of "stay tuned for our performance." Well when it was 110 IN THE SHADE'S turn to do their intro, the light cue went up and no one was there. We were Audra Macdonald scream "AW SHOOT!" (in character) and ran up the stairs to the platform. It was HILARIOUS!

Also, the In Memorium section is a little different this year. Tommy Tune sings a Betty Comden-written song to a montage.
"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

I'm almost positive Avenue Q was NOT second to last that year. I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure I remember it being near the beginning of the telecast. Again, I may be wrong...

"I love how I don't really care. I don't memorize the order in which shows perform on The Tony Awards."

Then why would make a statement that the show performing last "always wins" as if it was fact?

Because they never actually say, "I'm just guessing here..."

munk - I never said she wouldn't be singing live. She sang live at the Tony rehearsal, however the video clip they show during the "Best Actress" list of nominees was rehearsal footage of her lipsynching to a guy's voice.

The Tony rehearsal is by invite-only.

Yes, each set is especially built for scale on Radio City & television. Some props or set pieces MIGHT be borrowed.
