The article is also on Playbill.

According to this, Spring Awakening will be doing a medley. I guess that's their response to the language problem with performing the obvious choices.

Why are the Tony producers letting Fantastia perform if they were so adaminte on restricting the televised performances to nominated shows only?
Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

I like that she at least has a relationship to Broadway, unlike some of the other "special" performances from recent years, but that's about the only positive thing I can say.

Has anyone seen the commercials on CBS? I've only seen one once but I could have sworn that they used something from Legally Blonde in the background.

What Unkristen posted what what I was linking. This is what happens when you don't copy the first "h" in "http." I guess I knew about Spring Awakening doing a medley way in advance.

So there's NO Apple Tree performnace? Which I figured would happen, but I was just waiting for some official announcement.

Kind of wish Chorus Line would do anything but "One"... but whatever.

So happy to see "Raunchy" again. Audra will be fantastic!

P.S. Anyone see her do "Simple Little Things" on The View this morning? Reminded me of how beauful i thought that song was during the show. I really need to get the 110 Cast Album.

You do know there aren't any "rules" as to who can and can't perform at the Tony Awards, don't you? I think Fantasia is getting the honor to perform because this is Broadway's way of toasting one of the best reviewed new stars to arrive on Broadway in years, if not ever. If you haven't seen her critic reviews for TCP, I suggest you search them out, then perhaps you'd understand why. Had she gotten so so reviews, I don't think we'd see her performing sometimes it's hard to ignore the best thing to happen to Broadway and right now, Fantasia is a hot ticket on Broadway, according to the critics.

But the Tony producers have said only nominated shows can perform. Reviews aside, Fantasia and her show are not nominated this year, and they should not be allwoed to perform.
I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.

Virgo- Whatever.

If you think Fantasia got the best "newcomer" reviews in a long time, that's fine. But the Tony's are NOT having her perform in order to "toast" her "wonderful" performance. It's not to celebrate her. They're doing it for ratings and ratings alone. No shame in that, it is a business and they happen to be up against one of the biggest nights in television history (The Sopranos series finale) and they need every break they can get. But don't go trumpeting Fantasia (don't see why I'm saying this as you'll do it anyway) and say that the Tony's are doing this for moral reasons.
"Sing the words, Patti!!!!" Stephen Sondheim to Patti LuPone.

Boo to a medley for Awakening. Still people say it's to avoid performing a song with objectionable words? Bitch is said on daytime tv all the time--the only song with an objectionable word I know that would maybe be one they'd perform is Totally F*CKed--and I doubt that woulda ever been considered

So One is for sure the Chorus Line performance? booo.. I mean it's classic but it's so expected and so been done...
