"They're doing it for ratings and ratings alone."

If this helps you accept that she's performing, whateva. It isn't for ratings, if it were, they could have just had her present and advertise the heck out of it, her fans are easy to please, they'd been happy with that. She's performing because of her RAVE reviews. No if's, and's, or butts about it.

Duh, they've got Usher presenting, don't you think he'd be enough to draw a bunch of new viewers? They didn't need to stick Fantasia in there if it were just for "ratings", they've got a bunch of A listers set to present awards. Tony producers had to have known that axing Lovemusik and blond the allowing Fantasia would get a bunch of complainers and possibly lose viewers. Obviously they don't care, they care more about allowing the current toast of the white way perform. Look around, you have way more people complaining that Fantasia's performing, so how is that going to "help" ratings? Please!!!!

Plus, if it's for "ratings and ratings only" why didn't they let all the other American Idol contestants who've gone to Broadway perform at the Tony's? Updated On: 5/29/07 at 06:07 PM

I'm glad Spring Awakening is doing a medley. I agree that they wouldn't consider doing "Totally F****d", but if they do a medley, they could atleast work in the "blah blah" part.

I think they should start with Lea's "Mama Who Bore Me" and move quickly into the Reprise with all the girls. Then they could do either The Bitch of Living or My Junk (though if they did Mama and then My Junk, people might think the show is all about the girls). Then they could maybe do a cleaner part of TF and end with the Blah Blah Blah part.

I wish they could just do Totally F'd but say "Totally Stuck" and "Kiss your sorry LIFE goodbye." It wouldn't really change the meaning, and it would sound about the same.

The original line is "Kiss your sorry ass goodbye right"? I've heard ass used even in daytime soap operas--I don't think primetime CBS would object

I agree FOsse--yeah the original cast did I Hope I get iIt in 1975 (and a short One) but I'd love to see the new cast do it. Oh well

-No. Not in a million years. Having Usher present an award for all of 30 seconds wouldn't cut it. Neither would Fantasia presenting. You must think that her fanbase is HARDCORE if they're going to all tune in to the Tony Awards for 30 seconds to watch her present an award to God knows who.

If they couldn't attract people with Nicole Kidman, Julia Roberts (arguably the BIGGEST star in the world) and many other extremely well known celebs, than having just Usher present would not bring in MILLIONS of viewers.

Once again, I will say, it's for ratings. They're up against the biggest night of the year in television, and what will be one of the biggest nights in television history: The Sopranos SERIES FINALE. They don't stand a chance. The best they can hope for is a slight boost when Fantasia performs.

I think you're talking to a 12 year old and s/he is obviously all about the Fantasia, is not going to listen to reason. So yes, they did it to toast her, she's the best thing to hit Broadway in I don't even know how many decades, if not of all time. And it's a shame she couldn't win best actress in a musical because she'd have it hands down...I mean, have you looked up her reviews? RAVES, I tell'ya, RAVES!!!

As for Spring Awakening having issues with cuss words, Avenue Q said f*ck and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels said ass. I don't think they could have easily performed Totally F*cked but I do think they could have easily done Bitch of Living.

Both of those words were bleeped on the telecast. Spring Awakening would be performing "Totally BLEEPed".

I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.

What is it with the Tony Awards being scheduled the same night as The Soprano's finale? Isn't that at least the 2nd or 3rd time that's happened in the last few years? DAMN YOU, HBO!!!

Medlys suck in my opinion, they don't represent the show as it is.
I long for the days when you did an all out number that represented the show, take it or leave it.
Of course any number from HELLO DOLLY would draw audiences more than a medly from SPRING AWAKENING.
I would put money on Fantasia doing her big Eleven O clock number but dressed elegantly, not my favorite idea for the TONYS but better than some things they have done the last few years,.
POPPINS is also doing a medly, oye.

Yay for Raul signing Being Alive. It may not be the best representation of the entire show but I want to hear him sing it again.

Whats got you so angry? Virgo is correct in saying that Fantasia's reviews are phenomenal. It is a fact. It has been quoted by the NY CRITICS that she is the best newcomer to Broadway in years. Fact.

I think its wonderful that Fantasia will be performing at the Tony's - she obviously there for two reasons: Talent and Draw.

What more is there to debate?

It just makes some of you look like fools when you ignore the overwhelming response to Fantasia's performance by the CRITICS not her fans.

Yeah, and it makes you and Virgo look like fools to believe Fantasia is the only person ever on Broadway to get great reviews and ignore the dozens of other actors that have gotten the same critical response just this year.

Thank you, orangeskittles. Fantasia got some pretty fantastic reviews, no doubt. But stop thinking that her performing is for moral reasons. Think of every other performer that got just as good reviews as her, and in some cases even better: Donna Murphy, Audra McDonald, Chrsitine Ebersole, Michael Cerveris, and many others from even Off-Broadway, too. And tha's from JUST THIS YEAR ALONE. I don't know why I'm even bothering. Trying to get through to you would be like trying to make Paris Hilton realize she has no talent.

What does it really matter if Fantasia is performing? Is it going to bring back the Bubonic Plague? Is it another piece of the puzzle that is Armageddon? No, I don't think so. So, to quote Herr Brecht, "Who gives a hoot in hell?"

With that said, it's totally BLEEPed that Donna Murphy and Michael Cerveris aren't performing.

I prefer big production numbers to solo songs, but these are nice choices. I bet Curtains will come through for me with a big production number

If Fantasia singing one (hopefully musical theatre) song spares us from a Hugh Jackman/Mary J Blige/Aretha whoever else lovefest with them singing multiple songs that aren't, in some cases, attributed to the right composers, I am all for it.

And I am not even a Fantasia fan but at least she is on Broadway this season....

No, I did not search. Sorry If this was already posted.

...But why didn't you? You don't have to be the first to post every link. I'm not trying to be mean, but if I recall, you've criticized others for not searching first. Apologizing in advance doesn't really justify not following the rules.

I understand. I admit, I have problems with being the first to get stuff up. I have even been told before this. I usually only point it out to others if it is threads like "What's your favorite theater?" I usually search for other stuff though.

It's fine, I just wouldn't admit to not having taken the extra few seconds to search. Parallel threads can be bothersome (though that didn't happen in this case).
