Strokes can be caused by a clot or a bleed. There are medications if given early in patients caused by clots which work really well.
I hope that he has a speedy recovery

Watch him with Jill O'Hara sing "I'll Never Fall in Love Again" from Promises, Promises at a tribute to Burt Bacharach last December.

Posted: 10/4/09 at 7:52pmWow! I hope it's nothing more serious than a case of the flu! (I also thought stroke when I read those words). Here's sending good thoughts his way!

Didn't the same thing happen to Irene Ryan during "Pippin"?
I hope he's ok, but I've learned to fear the worst, that way the good news is even better.

His costume in the show is rather elaborate. If the stage were warm he could have been dehydrated and fainted.
Thankfully he is in a hospital and can be treated properly.

Posted: 10/4/09 at 8:36pmMy mother, who is almost ten years older than Roberts, suffered a major stroke a couple of months ago. Despite all her other underlying conditions (diabetes, high blood pressure, etc) and a lifetime of smoking, she has made a remarkable recovery. Her speech and motors skills have come all the way back. So, I'm holding onto to hope, even if it is a stroke.

How awful...wishing him a speedy recovery and hoping for the best!
(My first thought with the slurring of words was that he had a stroke, like many others have said, but I certainly hope that isn't the case.)

IF it was a stroke ( big if) he had the luck to be in a major metropolis w cutting edge tx abounding. Generally if a drug- TPA -is administered within an hour of the episode the prognosis is very good for full recovery.
Good luck & G*d bless Mr. Roberts.

This is on the other Theatre Chat board:
We heard from Tony Roberts' daughter Nicole: "Please spread the words that he is FINE!! It was NOT a stroke and he will likely be back in the show next week. Thanks for reaching out."
Great news, indeed!

I directed the show, and I cannot tell you how wonderful he was and on top of that, just as nice as can be and a real authentic gentleman, something that seems to be disappearing from the world we live in. Glad to hear he's okay.
