Makes sense. I've said before in other threads that they should just move ahead with the voting period ASAP, and then announce the winners whenever it's more beneficial from a marketing standpoint. Andn ow it looks like they're doing that. This solves the problem of forcing the voters to have to remember back further and further, as the dates keep getting pushed. Solves both problems at once. Even if they continue delaying the announcement until 2022, the results will reflect the opinions of the voters in March 2021. Even that is not ideal - it would have been better if they did it earlier. But at least they've realized the solution that keeps it from getting worse.
Glad they're finally following through with this, but I probably won't watch the ceremony for this truncated season.
Ok well you probably have until around Halloween or so to decide if you want to watch or not.
I am guessing it will be in the weird period post-Labor Day. But we shall see.
What I've heard is that they are planning for it to coincide with tickets going on sale, not when shows open. So the ceremony could be held a few months before shows re-open, assuming they will put tickets on sale a few months in advance as had been the case pre-covid.

huh?
Victor thinks B'way is not reopening until spring of next year- which right now could be seen as a worst-case scenario (Fauci has recently said sometime in the fall). So based off Jonhotmail's assumption that the ceremony will be held soon after tickets go on sale, instead of after some shows reopen... there you have it.

Huh what? Huh? Bway isn’t opening until the fall at the VERY earliest and it’s going to be an extremely soft opening. They’re not gonna have a Tony ceremony then. They’re gonna have it when most of the musicals are open which won’t be until at least January 2022

As I have said before, barring something horrific, expect like half a dozen shows in the fall, perhaps half Tony eligible and maybe 1 musical (and not a big one). I expect the spring will bring a few more, and at least one "big" musical, and we know what that is. But there will be no "most of the musicals." Things will start to look a little more like normal in '23.
But the '19-'20 Tonys will take place in the early fall of '21.
Aren't you the dude who kept saying they would never happen because there was nothing to be gained? LOL

Yes and that's seems to be the consensus for Broadway. Step 1: safety. Step 2: the economy. Step 3: tourism.
I don’t want to speak for Hogan, but by 2023 I think he is saying 2023 is when things will look the way they looked this time last year. Correct? It’s not going to be a big blowout with a parade like the odious Mr. Riedel would like later this year. But at least it’ll be something, and something to build— or rather rebuild— on.

Pretty much. I think Broadway may look a little different than before ("new normal"
, and I don't expect there will be a full complement of shows, but I think it will again "feel" like Broadway.
