I agree SWEENEY's innovative re-imagining should win but let's hope the allocate time for numbers from the Best Musical revival nominees.
From SWEENEY I want them to show "A Little Priest," It will have to be shortened but it will show middle American a show that is morbidly funny.
From PAJAMA GAME how about Hernando's Hidaway giving Connnick his chance to shine. (This will be his final performance since the show wil have closed that afternoon. Unless sit extends.)
Recently I have been transferering all my old Tony Awards VHS tapes to DVD's. In 1994 they opened with songs from all 4 nominees introduced by Victor Garber as the DAMNY YANKEES devil singing new lyrics to "Those Were the Good Old Days." And in 1997 they featurd numbers from all 4 revival nominees (CHICAGO, CANDIDE, ANNIE and ONCE UPON A MATTRESS which had played its final performance that same afternoon.)
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com
Well, there isn't much to do with Pajama Game...so Sweeney and Threepenny have more of a chance.
And we've seen Sweeney. So it depends on 3Penny. No pressure.
Sweeney is a great production. Yes. But the key point is that it is, at time, very mudddled. And the ending is, well, nonexistent, really. There's no denouement, as it were.

This post is about the ending of Sweeney Todd. I happen to think it has one, but that's just me.
Really? Sweeney freezing completely and allowing himself to die isn't enough of an ending for you? It's downright Greek- he got his revenge and killed himself in the process. I'm not sure what more you want.

Okay, maybe a final tuba solo by LuPone would have been nice, but still.
Um, spoiler???

I dunno, I never saw the show so I dunno if you would consider it a spoiler, but I saw the word "ending" and figured it was! Sorry to sound like a b*tch!
Why so much sturm und drang over the Best Revival award? It means zero at the box office.
Anyway, I do think Sweeney has the edge, although I wouldn't count out the fact that touring houses would probably prefer booking a Pajama Game tour over Sweeney, which has never been a star on the road.
I don't think people are paying enough attention to THE PAJAMA GAME in this race. The run is COMPLETELY SOLD OUT, which usually means a lot come awards time. Plus, it has a recognizable name above the title, and a classic score that even the folks in Peoria can recognize.
