OK- So know that we know Pajama Game is a hit, what show do you believe has the greatest chance to win this award? My hopes and predictions lie with Sweeney. What do you all think?

I agree. Even though Sondheim revivals are 2 for 5 over the last 5 years, everyone agrees that this Sweeney is a steller production (unlike Gypsy, Follies, and Pacific Overtures, which were cooly received). I don't see it going to The Pajama Game, which is scheduled to close the week after the Tonys. There would be no commercial value in giving it to TPG. And, yes, I'm that cynical.

Agreed on SWEENEY. Even if SWEENEY and PJ were neck-in-neck (sorry!) in most voters eyes, they would give the nod to the one with the open-ended run, because Tony Awards help sales.
Do you guys think that Threepenny Opera will have an impact in this race?
I'm putting my money on Sweeney Todd for best revival.

I think it's moot to discuss this until Threepenny Opera opens. It's a classic and a brilliant production of it could very well end up taking the Revival Tony.
i think it will be SWEENEY in the end. early word is that THREE PENNY is a freak show of sorts, but we shall see.
If it's a GOOD freak show, critics will love it, as will all of NY. So wait and see.
Freak show like the 1998 revival of Cabaret that cleaned up at the Tonys?
I think, no matter how good Threepenny Opera is, Sweeney will win.

I just hope Threepenny gets recorded. It sounds like such an interesting show.

I also think Sweeney pretty much has this award in the bag.
There is so much that is unique about Sweeney that I don't see how it couldn't win. I'm sure the others are/will be great, but my votes Sweeney.

Does Pajama Game have any plans to tour, though? And, aren't many of the Tony voters regional owners, managers, and producers who have a vested interest in seeing a Tony-winning show play their theater? While I'm personally pulling for Sweeney, I also don't see it playing well in some of the cavernous road houses around the country. I live outside of Atlanta, and our Fox Theater is GIANT. I couldn't see Sweeney there, but a show like Pajama Game would play well in that space. That could be a factor in some voter's opinions.

I disagree with that statement philcrosby. They gave the tony to Assassins which was scheduled weeks after the Tony's and yes they did extend the run but it stil wasn't an open ended run...But Sweeney should win it.
I'm still pulling for Sweeney, of course, but I like that TPJG is providing reasonable competition. I'm excited to see it and glad that it's getting such great reviews, but I think Sweeney pretty much owns this award.
It will definitely be Sweeney Todd.

Attend the tale of Sweeney Todd, it surely will get the Tony nod....
No, we should def see how Threepenny turns out. Sweeney is sublime and has the award in the bag--UNLESS Threepenny is even more sublime. It could be a fantastic Tony race.
There's no doubt Threepenny is going to be a freak show. C'mon, they cast a man as Lucy Brown, for crying out loud! And almost anything with Alan Cumming can be automatically considered a freak show.
But, it should be tons of fun!
