I don't enjoy this production, but I'm definitely going back to see Lillias.

i don't understand why Debra Monk was in it for such a short time. only four months i think.

They have another "Huey Lewis" video as Billy Flynn on Broadway.Com - I thought perhaps, Since the one of him on that morning show was sooooo bad they maybe wanted to show some "good" clips. Well, CLIPS is a good word for it - remember the high next to last note in "They both reached for the gun"? They seem to have clipped the note right out of the show! The rest of him in it is equally as rancid. I Love this guy with his Group, The News, It just goes to show you - Know your limitations.
And, Whatever happened to the much touted Robin Givens as Roxie?? She just vanished and I don't remember it mentioned again..?
As far as Miss White, I wish her well with this role she is overqualified for.
Maybe Paris Hilton as Roxie and they can get the other, Nicole Ritchie as Velma, Or Billy Flynn, She'd be butcher than Huey in the role!

Let's get her in a show that is worthy of her talent. That said - what a blessing to ahve her back on the stage for more than a one night concert!!

It's like a (how long she stays with the show) concert. That's exactly how the show seems when you see it which is why I dislike the revival.

Considering the revival is based on the Encores! Concert production of CHCIAGO. It's pretty obvious why the show is like a concert. And it wouldn't be better if it was a different way. The simplicity of the revival is what makes it so damn good.

And I think it's pretty stupid to insinuate the show is "below" Lillias. A job is a job. CHICAGO is one of the most raved about and most succesful productions of the last 10 years! Anybody should be happy to be in it. I know Debra Monk has stated how great it feels to be part of a HIT show! Plus it's Kander & Ebb and Fosse - the material is not "below" any performer.

Lilias White is one of my favorites.

She so deserved the Tony for The Life. I met her at the cast party for the CD of that show when I was sitting with Mary Wilson and they were both so warm and friendly. I also saw her in a one-woman show (help me--what was the name of that?) on the lower East Side at a theatre. And she did a hilarious "Black Bottom" song as I think Ma Rainey at the gathering for the naming of the August Wilson Theater.

She's a powerhouse!

I'd love to see her again in anything, and she'll go to town in Chicago as that prison Mama.

ljay - sorry did not mean it was below her - I should have siad I would love to see her in a brand new show - or something with a great song written for her. She no question will sing the hell outta that score though - as she always will!

I saw Lillias in the Life and in H2$. Her solo in "Brotherhood of Man" is simply amazing. The audience went NUTS.

Well, I love the film but cannot stand the production currently running on Broadway. Even with Charlotte as Roxie I was still totally underwhelmed.

And Debra Monk missed every joke in the script when I saw her. She was either having a terrible evening, or she doesn't have a sense of comedy.

The fact is, Mama Morten isn't the "Part of a Lifetime". I'd like to see her in a vehicle where she can do more. Singing Mama's 2 songs ain't a lot. Love the show but Mama ain't a highlight stnadout breakout role - we all know that.
I was weaned on "Chicago" , When I dislike a show, I'll be sure to let you know.

Lilias White as Mama Morton is great news. That powerhouse voice taking on "When you're good to mama"? Perfect.

I saw Marcia Lewis touring with Chicago a couple of years back here in SF and she was walking through the part. Her rendition of "When you're good to mama" was embarassing. I had loved her so the first time I saw her, too!

Why don't they just can Ms. Givens who doesn't seem to be a draw and let Lillias White do Roxy? She can do it!

I hope this does not sound mean, but I don't think Lillias has the figure for Roxie.


According to Chicago fanatics on Musicals.net, Lillias is quote "a trainwreck of a Mama." So maybe she will get better.

I think it's wonderful that fans such as myself will get the opportunity to see her onstage again so soon, but i completely agree with jimmirae...

she is WAY to over qualified.

but still, a bit of fun never hurt anyone. much.
