So I was just discussing with my friend a few songs that could have been performed at the Tonys instead of a the one htat was chosen.
Example: for Wicked, instead of DG, they should have done What Is This Feeling?
anyone else have other ideas for songs for any show at any Tony award?

Posted: 3/2/05 at 9:48pmI would have rather seen WONDERFUL TOWN do "One Hundred Easy Ways" or "Wrong Note Rag." I like "Swing" but I think the other two numbers would have been better.

Posted: 3/2/05 at 9:50pmI loved when millie did "forget about the boy" but i would have liked to see them have done either "speed test" or "thoroughly modern millie"
"I think it was the Korean tour or something. They were all frickin' asian!" -Zoran912

Posted: 3/2/05 at 10:02pmI wish Caroline Or Change had done Roosevelt Petrucious Coleslaw. I think it would've come across better on camara to the regular tv audience and with Tonya Pinkins' voice having its issues, I just think it would've played better on tv. It's also like my fav song and would've showcased Anika (who had just won the tony)... but this is just my opinion....

I liked that CAROLINE did "Lot's Wife."
But I agree that WICKED should have done "What is this Feeling" and that WONDERFUL TOWN should have done something else. "Swing!" just came across really weird on camera, and we all know what happened with "Defying Gravity."

Posted: 3/2/05 at 10:55pmI liked what they did with the Mamma Mia performance when they did a medley of songs. I think that would work really well.
"Good luck returning my ass!" - Wilhemina Slater
"This is my breakfast, lunch and f***ing dinner right here. I'm not even f***in' joking." - Colin Farrell

For THE PRODUCERS, they should have done "Springtime for Hitler" instead of "Along Came Bialy".
As for THE BOY FROM OZ, "The Boy Next Door" was OK, but wouldn't "Everything Old is New Again" or "I Go to Rio" have been better?

Posted: 3/2/05 at 11:55pmI wanted to see Ave Q. do "For Now" though I know it wouldn't have gone over well with CBS but can you imagine the audience reaction on "only for now.... George Bush is only for now!" LoL But I still enjoyed "It Sucks to be Me"

The Full Monty's Let It Go was good, but anti- climactic. While it's a great number, it didn't show off two of the main stars of the show- THE LYRICS, and Patrick Wilson's belt.
They would've been better off with Big Ass Rock.

Posted: 3/3/05 at 2:36amCertainly the performance of "Lot's Wife" from CAROLINE OR CHANGE, which was so odd out-of-context. It turned me off to the show, and it wasn't until I joined the board and heard all the praises that I gave the cast recording a chance.

Posted: 3/3/05 at 6:34amFor "Mamma Mia" a couple years back, I wished they had done Louise singing "The Winner Takes It All".

I agree SallyBrown..
I love Defying Gravity but they should have had a song that featured both Idina & Kristin.

I think one of the worst performance choices was from A Year with Frog and Toad. I loved that show but the song they chose was "Alone." It features only Frog (Jay Goade)singing a semi-serious ballad! The rest of the show is upbeat, adorable, and hilarious! Why they didn't do "Get A Loada Toad" or "It's Spring" or any other song that communicated what the show really was I don't understand. At least a song for both Frog AND Toad!
I really loved that show. Too bad it closed so quickly.

very often they choose poor numbers to do........It seems they are intent on showing the entire cast and production and will often do a weaker number just for this purpose............of course the most outstanding Tony moments are the riveting "singular" sensations such as
Jennifer Holiday's performance from DREAMGIRLS
Michael Jeter from GRAND HOTEL
Patti Lupone from EVITA
actually, the above three used alot of other cast members too....
THE WORST THING that many shows do is when they do the
dumb "medley" thing..........
the sampling from the INTO THE WOODS revival a couplea years back was awful...............
The GUYS&DOLLS revival chose dreadfully when they telecast their awful version of Sit Down You're Rockin the Boat (the whole world wanted to see Faith Prince do Adelaide's Lament or she and Nathan Lane do Sue Me.)

Posted: 3/3/05 at 1:19pmI agree that COC should've done something other than "Lot's Wife". I love the song, but it doesn't work well outside the show. Updated On: 3/3/05 at 01:19 PM

As far as the last Tony awards are concerned...
I think "Fiddler" should have done "If I Was a Rich Man" instead of "Tradition".
I think "Assassins" should have done "Another National Anthem". Their performance of "Everybody's Got the Right" was just too...boring.

I think that Tradition was perfect - it showcases the whole show.
I think DG was good, I would have preferred What is this feeling though...
BFO was great because it allowed Hugh to do all that he did...and more.

Posted: 3/3/05 at 3:07pmI dunno...I think Wicked should maybe have done something easier, like No Good Deed would have been amazing! Even if it was only Idina...

For Full Monty....they should have done "Michael Jordan's Ball"

Posted: 3/3/05 at 4:48pmI loved that Wicked did Defying Gravity. I mean it was Idina's show and that really showed her off and that her part is difficult to perform. I would have loved Another National Anthem from Assassins, but there is way too much language in it. I was more upset that the Tony's wouldn't allow Big River a chance to perform. That would have been awesome to see!

things i would have preferred:
producers- we can do it
wicked- what is this feeling
ave q- everyone's a little bit racist (even tho i doesn't have rick in it)
wonderful town- ohio, 100 easy ways, conga! (anything but swing)
