I'm really surprised how many of these lists have no theme that one would expect from someone's "favorite" shows. People will like gritty rock operas (JCS) right up with campy, fluffy 50s stuff (Hairspray) right next to dark Sondheim (Sweeney Todd).
I guess it goes to show that the execution and quality of a show can have a greater effect than its style.

absolutely :) I mean, I personally DO have a tendency to drift toward the modern rock/pop musicals, but I wouldn't rule out something just because it's NOT that kind of musical. I saw Company, and although I didn't love the score, I definitely appreciated the beauty of the show, and the brilliance of its book. Basically, I am willing to try anything and if it's executed well, I'll probably at least appreciate that aspect of it. It may not be my cup of tea, but I can appreciate it.
