Act I of PASSION ends with "I Wish I Could Forget You" right after Fosca screams and Giorgio leaves the stage. It's a travesty if you ask me, it makes no sense.
"Some people can thrive and bloom living life in a living room, that's perfect for some people of one hundred and five. But I at least gotta try, when I think of all the sights that I gotta see, all the places I gotta play, all the things that I gotta be at"

#1 is hands down 'A Little Priest'
It is not only the finest ACT I Finale for any musical, it is, to me, also the most well-constructed, most clever and greatest showtune of all time.
After that, I would say...
2) Sunday, SITPWG
3) A Weekend in the Country, A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC
But really, this is an impossible task. All of his Act I Finale's are perfect for each show they are part of, and, since every one of his shows are so incredibly different, every Finale is incredibly different. It's really comparing apples to M&Ms.

Ljay, I absolutely agree with your reasoning. I just meant that for the sake of this little game, if the "Who's That Woman?" finale was in play after being used for like 4 previews, then that would be my #2. Not important haha, but I just figured that if we counted the Mornings intermission, I'd take Woman just because I personally like that moment better.
Although, I do like the "Too Many Mornings" buildup as Buddy walks on and it does seem an ideal placement for an intermission, I'd prefer it without.

Like pretty much everyone else I'm going to say Sunday and A Little Priest for my top 2. My number 3 is Ever After from Into the Woods. My school did this show when I was a freshman, and this was the only song that I was actually able to see. I just remember standing in the wings taking a deep breath knowing that we'd made it through the first act. There was so much going on backstage, so it was nice to have a few minutes to watch some of the show. I've had an odd attachment to that song ever since.

1. Sunday
2. A Little Priest
3. A Weekend in the Country
I have to say, though, as big a soft spot as I have for the show, Merrily We Roll Along's Act 1 closer "Now You Know" must be one of the most anticlimactic I can think of.

1. A Little Priest (Sweeney Todd)
2. Someone in a Tree (Pacific Overtures), although I believe there was a short musical passage after it. Some kind of dance. Would that count?
3. A Weekend in the Country (Night Music)
4. Now You Know (Merrily)
5. Sunday (Sunday in the Park)

Perfect list Iluvtheatertrash! Its exactly what I would have put down and I liked that you clarified Marry Me a Little from this recent revival.
Happy...Everything!
