Really? I wouldn't exactly call Sutton a diva...Nice list though! I'd add Donna Murphy instaead of Sutton though

Even though I love her, I'd take off Carol Burnett because she's more of a TV diva, I'd spell Minnelli correctly, I'd add Barbara Cook, Betty Buckley, Bernadette Peters and take off Julia Murney considering the only Broadway show she's been in is "Lennon" and it tanked.

This is a list of my favorites, not necessarily those who may be considered more legendary than some on the list (example--Ethel Merman)
Barbra Streisand
Julie Andrews
Sherie Rene Scott
Angela Lansbury
Jennifer Holliday
Kristin Chenoweth
Patti Lupone
Betty Buckley
Idina Menzel

Sutton kind of reminds me of a young Judy Garland. And yes, I would absolutely have her on the list.

Bernadette Peters has got to be on the list.
I would also add Chita Rivera.
I thought a DIVA would be a person who considers themself the best, even though they really aren't? Please clarify...
Yes Bernadette Peters definitely has to be on the list!

Everyone listen to Liza With A Z, stat! You'll never spell her name wrong again.
there are 2 types of diva:
the benevolent diva and the malevolent one...divas don't think they're the best(well some do), they're just confident in themselves, and some mistake it for arrogance.

thank you courtnyj, I try my best for my neighbors lol. I forgot to put Elaine in there somewhere, but she deserves a spot as does possibly Gwen V.
Merman must be on EVERY list!
Marin Mazzie, Liz Callaway and Carolee Carmello are definetly honorable mentions, though
In alphabetical order:
Betty Buckley
Linda Eder
Jennifer Holliday
Patti LuPone
Audra McDonald
Ethel Merman
Liza Minelli
Elaine Paige
Bernadette Peters
Chita Rivera
Elaine Stritch
Though she is amazing, i barely consider Linda Eder a Broadway Diva. This woman needs a show to do SOON!!!
I agree with this list if you are talking about older broadway. Broadway music is changing a lot and yeah I would still consider some of them divas like Patti but there are a lot of new voices out there that fit the new broadway style. The list would be accurate if you were talking about broadway divas 6-10 years ago.
O jeez! I forgot Bernadette and Julie. I adore them both.
When I say diva, I mean in a way personal idol because of the confidence, personality, and work they pour into their performances. And all the women I picked have something very unique and their talent is like no other. They know how to own a stage.
Honorable Mentions for me would be: Chita Rivera, Ethel Merman, Babs, Tonya Pinkins, Carol Channing, and Idina Menzel, even though I like Idina more as a performance artist.
I guess I could make a top 20.
Sorry for the spelling
Here's my list. It has some newer divas as well as some lengends.
Julie Andrews
Kristin Chenoweth
Eden Espinosa
Sutton Foster
Mary Martin
Idina Menzel
Liza Minnelli
Bernadette Peters
Chita Rivera
Gwen Verdon

Again, I like Eden...but she is not a Broadway Diva...
An appearance in one or two Broadway musicals does not a "Broadway diva" make. There really should be a substantial track record of Broadway performances.
Thinking someone is great does not make her into a Broadway diva if she doesn't have the Broadway credits. Linda Eder may be concert diva, but a Broadway diva?
Just my two cents.
I could not agree more...
