ijay, I love your ten choices of Wicked. But which order did you place them, ascending or descending? Is Wicked better than Wicked, or is Wicked better than Wicked?
Just curious......

Posted: 4/22/06 at 9:12pmI wish people could back up their choices, because a lot of them almost seem like they couldn't think of anything else...

>>>Actually, Kern was considered to be a real gentleman and a nice guy. His collaboration with Hammerstein was fascinating in that each of them saw a future for musical theatre that nobody else in their time could envision and they truly reshaped the face of the industry. I believe Sondheim is a kindred spirit of theirs so I thought it would be an interesting match. I mean, what the heck would Irving Berlin have found in common with Stephen?<<<
Sondheim is certainly fond of Kern. He even wrote the liner notes for the album of Kern songs conducted by Andre Kostelanetz in the late 60's. As far as Berlin goes, Sondheim has likened him to a dependable character actor, somewhat of a backhanded compliment.

I just realized that I didn't put Gypsy in my Top 10. You can take out either Fiddler on the Roof or My Fair Lady and replace it with that.
Gypsy is probably one of the greatest musicals of all time.
