Top Theatre stories of 2009#1

There are many to choose from:

Natasha Richardson's passing
The 3 Billy's historic Tony Win
Twittergate
Spider Man Drama
Love Never Dies Drama
WSS Absences
Avenue Q closing and moving Off-Broadway
Susan Boyle
The Failure of The Neil Simon Plays
Amy Spanger vs. Rock of Ages
All the January show closings
Patti Lupone's "pictures" rant (Was that late 2008, or early 2009? I can't remember)
God Of Carnage taking a hiatus

What else? I could only think of Broadway stories.

How is Susan Boyle's success a "Top Theatre Story?"

Rant, Wickud, Rant, Wickud, Rant! We're not gonna pay Rant! 'Cause everythink is Wickud!

"Leave Walt Disney Theatricals new sparkling production of The Little Mermaid on Broadway alone!!!"

lakezurich will be played by Paul Groves in the BWW musical

Yeah, I kinda regretted that after I posted. It's only somewhat theatre connected.

"Amy Spanger vs. Rock of Ages"

I didn't hear of this one? Was there a conflict? Is that why Kerry is back?

Amy Spanger went on vacation and never came back. And Patti's rant was in 2009. It was only like, three days before the show closed.

Can we add Riedel going after Addams family? Or not yet?

Don't forget... A TALE of TWO CITIES not only being recorded. but including half of the OBC leads, and great other talents from an international stage. NOT even to mention a full beautiful orchestra. That doesn't even begin to talk about a DVD concert edition shown on PBS. Then that DVD being released into the whole!

Is the Amy Spanger story kinda like what Laura Bell Bundy did with Wicked?

Patti's show-stopping rant was actually the second-to-last performance. I know because I was already in the rush line when people raced out of the theater and told me.

I chose, and my world was shaken. So what? The choice may have been mistaken. The choosing was not.

I'd say the biggest news is the return of the sophisticated American [new] musical, with "Next To Normal"!

I was going to say, Jeremy Piven's story was the most talked about theatre-related issue in America this past year.
Actually I've never heard so many tv talk shows talk about Broadway ever in the past.
What did exactly happened with Amy Spanger, any official word on what really went down in her ROA run?
Next to Normal and their fanbase are far from sophisticated IMO. LOL!

Yeah, definitely Sushigate.

How about Hugh Jackman and Daniel Craig setting new BC/EFA record?

We also had another musical that closed after only a few performances (5), Story of My Life.

Rocco Landsman gets named to head National Endowment for the Arts and Jordan Roth takes over Jujamacyn.
