Hi everyone... Going to see the tour tonight, and was wondering if anyone has had a chance to see it recently? How is it? I heard that Topol misses a couple of performances, is this true?
Also, has anyone stage doored it?
Don't bother.
Topol is the devil and he will not sign anything.
I saw the show, because I have friends in it, and Topol is Topol, only about 90 years old.
And pure evil.

LMAO thanks for the heads up. At the theater its playing at (The Broward Center for the Performing Arts), its close to impossible to even get to the stage door. But I was willing to try, for Topol. Guess not. lol
Dare I ask, what exactly happened between you and Topol?
He was an asshole during Baker's Wife so I imagine his evil has only aged like fine wine (or spoiled like an egg) over the years. I think you should ask Patti LuPone about him next time you see her! And video tape it please.

Xoffender45..I saw Fiddler months ago in Jacksonville. Topol was excellent in the role and did sign at the stage door that night and was very charming. Of course this was opening night and he may have been on better behavior due to press. FYI...if you believe the "gossip" on this board, you may have a better chance of running into him at other "establishments" in Ft Lauderdale.
... its close to impossible to even get to the stage door.
How is it close to impossible? The Broward Center's stagedoor is a mere 2 minute walk down the southside of the building (after the Amaturo). You simply walk down the curving walkway, make a right at the theatre's private outdoor parking lot... and simply walk up to the stagedoor. The neon green 'Stage Door' sign welcomes you. How is THIS impossible?
Is Mary Stout still in this. I think you should wheel a hot dog cart to the stage door and serve Topol a hot dog with a Baker's Wife playbill inside. Two birds with one stone.

Maybe things have changed since I last tried stage dooring the Broward Center, but the parking lot has always been locked when I tried. I gave up a while ago. I'll try checking it out tonight. Thanks for your help, Brody, and I say that without a drop of sarcasm.
No problem.
Nope... the rear parking lot IS a private parking lot and is not accessible for pedestrian cars (you need a pass to open the bar/gate for entrance) so the only access to the stage door is by walking up to it. If you plan on stage dooring at the Broward Center, do so immediately following the performance and prior to going to your car.
Good luck!

Is the tour worth seeing? Is Topol's u/s any good?

That's what I'm still trying to figure out. I'd hate to make the great schlep to Ft Lauderdale only to find its an understudy! I wonder if this is a "name above the title" situation that warrants a refund? Not that I'd ask for one regardless, but I'm just curious.

Hold up a minute! How is Topol evil?
He's notorious for being a cranky, grumpy diva. He was apparently very difficult to work with in Baker's Wife.

Dang.
And that was 30 years ago. I can only imagine that it's gotten worse.
I can't wait for the 30th anniversary ReNt tour starring Anthony Rapp. Topol has nothing on that.
Topol will actually be playing Maureen.
Topol is evil on so many levels.
A friend played opposite of him on a tour 20 years ago and has nothing nice to say about him.
His current cast doesn't even speak to him. And he gave his current Golde whiplash by snapping her around stage, on purpose.
He tried to open mouth kiss his daughters.
He cuts off other performs laughs.
He makes fun of other actors delivery ON STAGE.
He pushed Motel so far out of one scene, I thought he was going to shove him in the pit.
And yes, Mary is with the tour. She's charming on stage and off.
Oh, I really liked Mary Stout in the late lamented "Remember WENN." Always good to hear what alumni of that show are doing!

It takes a good ten minutes to get out of the Broward Center for the Performing Arts after a show, half the cast would probably be gone by the time you get there.
Lovely theatre, though.

LOL exactly!! I didn't even try tonight. As the lights went up, my partner and I were summoned to help a Dolly Parton look-alike to find her lost golden ring.
The show was great, though. An amazing performance by all, yes, even Satan himself, Topol.
