Did anyone see Brenda Blethyn's performance in 'night, Mother? It was a chilling breakthrough performance, I think she deserves at least a nomination, but I doubt she'll get it. The show got mostly negative reviews, but her performance was praised.
I think the Best Leading Actress in a Play nominees will be Cherry Jones, Kathleen Turner, Phylicia Rashad, Leslie Uggams, and Mary-Louise Parker.
Laura Linney is a great actress but her's was a nothing performance in Sight Unseen, as was Jessica Lange's in Menagerie and Natasha Richardson's in Streetcar.

I saw Blethyn- she had me weeping like a baby by the end of the play. I'd never cried so hard at a show before. The only thing that made me stop was the sudden buzzing of the assisted hearing device of a man in back of me. Ironically, he didn't hear it for several minutes. It was enough to ruin the atmosphere. LisaGay Hamilton was great. I doubt she'll be recognized. I don't even know if Ms. Rashad will be nominated. We'll just have to see. They both deserve a nom, though.
Edie Falco was miscast in 'night, Mother, she was horrible. She was way too old for starters, and she never got the accent down. But Brenda Blethyn was excellent, and I'm hoping she gets recognized. (crossing fingers)
By the way, if anyone wants to see 'night, Mother at its best, rent the film with Sissy Spacek and Anne Bancroft. Spacek was very young and brilliant. It's only on VHS though, but still check it out.
