It's a show designed for a small cast and there might be some potential rub by touting it as being from the creators of Memphis. It's funny though because Toxic came first. Low overhead, tweak the script, new location, new marketing, and some association with Memphis might make it more viable than it appears on the surface.

I saw it after Jason Wooten and Diana joined. The theatre looked pretty full. Not sold out but probably 3/4th full. New World Stages is a bit off the beaten path and it's possible the show would do better in a more central location for people walking around the theater district looking for a fun show.

I absolutely loved this show when I saw it off-Broadway. Such a fun night of theatre. I would love to see this on Broadway. Do you think they are doing a limited broadway run before heading on tour? So they can sell it as a Broadway musical? I thought I read that a regional production was being done of it...
I suppose that's a possibility too, perhaps a summer run and then tour in the fall.

This will begin as a regional production, at Houston's Alley Theatre from January 20 through February 12 this winter.

I saw this when it played off-Broadway, and found it mildly entertaining; that's about it. But I really cannot see this as economically viable on Broadway. Just my opinion.
TOXIC AVENGER- Attend the tale of Stephen Sondheim and Diane Paulus. Which was which?
If this happens, that means there will be another 17 year old role for Kerry Butler to play.

Think they'll bring back Diana D and hope the masses follow?

There are people who will come just to see Diana but it's been so long since idol that I doubt any producer hires her nowadays based on hopes of pulling in the AI crowd. If they ask her to play Sarah it'll be because she's really good in the role.
I really want to see Diana in the role. It close right before I could revisit the show and see her.

This is a bawdy , romantic, hilarious comedy with a message. Loved it need to see it again.Diana , Nancy and Nick have got to be in this. Bring on the Slime and Smile.

PS For any that doubt that Diana is riding on Idol fame get over it and check out how she has busted her ass to be recognized as bonafied Stage Actress. IMDB.COM IBDB.com

Struggling with reading comprehension? There hasn't been one negative thing said about DeGarmo in this thread. Chill out, fanboy.
They should bring back the girl who played the role originally. She was hilarious! I wonder if they're redesigning the show or bumping up the ensemble?
The casting notice only lists the 5 people. I hope they bring back the original cast who were perfection. That said, if it is the original cast, but with Diana, I would lift a glass as well.

$50 says ROA closes in January and this takes the Hayes.

YES! This show has a such a wonderful score. And they better bring Diana DeGarmo back!

singtopher, do you really think they'd shutter ROA before the movie comes out? I agree that the Helen Hayes would be a great theater for Toxic. The Brooks Atkinson was also mentioned here and that would be another option. I just cannot see a campy show like this, with a small cast, working well in a massive theater like the St. James.
Good point about the movie. I forgot about that. It just seems silly to put a 5 actor musical in a theatre any bigger.

The Alley is not touting they're production as pre-Bway. Hmmm...

Looks like Diana DeGarmo has gotten a contract role on The Young and The Restless out in LA.
Unless she is doing a very short stint (entirely possible with the way things are going on soaps) I can't imagine she'll be part of Toxic Avenger.

Ugh. Can't they bring back "Evil Dead: The Musical" instead?

It certainly seems unlikely Diana will be available for the Houston run if she's contracted to Y&R. Bummer BUT I'm still on board with this show if the fabulous Nancy Opel returns.

I'm hearing that the producers have asked Loretta Swit to come into the Broadway production because of her box office clout.
