Posted: 2/26/06 at 4:17pmDoes Merrily really qualify as a train wreck?
re: Train Wrecks You Wish You'd Seen#14

Posted: 2/26/06 at 4:21pmAwww I like Merrily.
re: Train Wrecks You Wish You'd Seen#18
Posted: 2/26/06 at 4:21pmI was reluctant to throw that out there! It didn't last long so I figured that's what was meant by a trainwreck...kinda. But it contains some of my ALL TIME favorite music. (Am I vindicated now?!!)

I think the original production of Merrily would qualify as a train wreck. Sacking the lead, the choreographer, changing the costumes to the t-shirts, running sixteen performances, people walking out, etc.
Don't get me wrong. As my name attests, I love Merrily, but the original production was clearly a huge mess. It's partially due to the infamy of its original run that I don't think the show will ever truly connect with a mass audience.

Posted: 2/26/06 at 4:22pmYeah trainwreck has more to do with something being so bad you can't take your eyes away. Merrily had enough genius about it to take it out of the trainwreck category. I think Merrily failed mostly because of the critics.

Carrie
Tom Sawyer
Dance of the Vampires
Train wrecks I wish I *hadn't* seen: Brooklyn and Sweet Smell.

Posted: 2/26/06 at 4:29pmAnd it was the original production I was referring to.
re: Train Wrecks You Wish You'd Seen#23
Posted: 2/26/06 at 4:31pmMerrily has very devoted following. I love it. I'd still consider it a train wreck.

Posted: 2/26/06 at 4:34pmI wish I had seen Jasmine Guy's "episode" on stage in VIOLET HOUR which resulted in her understudy having to finish her performance.
