Two questions

Hi all! I have two trivia-like questions that I’d like your feedback on. I don’t know the answers; Im looking for your thoughts on possible answers. Here goes:

(1) Which actor has performed in the most (different) Broadway theaters? For instance, Idina Mendel has played at the Nederlander in RENT, the Palace in AIDA, the Gershwin in WICKED, and the Richard Rodgers in IF/THEN. But I’m sure we can do much better than four!

(2) Which actor has performed in the largest number of different productions at the same theater? For instance, Joel Grey has been in three shows at the Palace: GEORGE M!, GOODTIME CHARLEY, and THE GRAND TOUR. Surely we can beat that.

Thanks!

Two questions

Fun game! For question 1, the first person I thought to check on was John Cullum, because his career has been so freaking long. I looked through his Broadway credits and found that he has performed in 20-21* of the currently operating theatres, plus 3 defunct theatres on top of those, making for a total of 23-24 theatres. So that's the new number to beat, and it's a doozy!

*For his Broadway debut in Saint Joan: on IBDB, it's unclear whether Cullum was still in the production when it moved to the O'Neill

For question 2, I wouldn't know where to begin thinking of who might hold that title (for the record, Cullum has performed in the Music Box three times - which, as you said, surely someone should be able to beat).

Two questions

There's probably a person who has been in the ensemble for more shows than Cullum. - likely in the 40s to 60s. But that does require quite the stick-to-it-ness. I wouldn't know where to start. Still, ,29 shows on IBDB plus a multi-year stint on Northern Exposure may be tough to beat.

Two questions

For the second question, are you counting shows in rep individually? In 1973-1974 Patti LuPone did 5 shows in rep at the Billy Rose (now Nederlander) plus War Paint a few years ago. So that could be looked at 6 shows at the same theatre if you count them individually.

Wow I think IBDB would have to be your best friend for several mins to find the answer(s).

I thought of elderly actors who I've been fortunate enough to see in recent years and Rosemary Harris came to mind. From looking her up on IBDB, I found she had her Bway debut back in 1952 and thus far has performed in 27 productions in 17 different Broadway theaters.

She also performed in 7 different Broadway productions at the Lyceum theater.

Two questions

Thank you all for your answers! I agree that Cullum’s numbers for question 1 will be hard to beat without some deep digging. For now we’ll call Harris the winner for question 2, but I’ll try to put in some effort and let you know if I come up with something.
