Danny was my first Mark and I absolutely adored him, best of luck wherever he goes

I've seem Tyler in Mamma Mia!, On The Record and Miracle Brothers. There is no desputing he has talent and that unexplainable "it" thing that the better stage actors have. (Which may explain the general joy/rapture most of you seem to have for his return to Altar Boyz) I even had the pleasure of meeting him after one of his last performances in On the Record. he was shy, quiet and genuinely pleased to be recognized here in DC. Unfortunately, ABz seems to have gone to his head just a tad. I made a point of speaking with him after Miracle Brothers, expecting the same gracious guy. What I got instead was a rude arrogant egotist...when I told him how much I enjoyed his work yet again, he was all smiles, and said, "well, I've been told I'm not that bad." ( I took it is a joke, until...)I then expressed my disappointment of coming up to NYC to see him in Altar Boyz and he was out of the show that day. His reply? "Oh, well, sh** happens, huh?" He rolled his eyes and walked away. Yes, folks he's talented, but talent apparently doesn't buy manners. Sh** does happen and it will be appearing nightly in Altar Boyz...well, probably not nightly...do the big stars really do 8 shows a week anymore?
i never got to see tyler as mark, but did get to see daniel torres and the danny. and i reeally enjoyed danny alot.

I didn't think ANY of the guys particularly stood out back when Tyler was in ABz. I do think that when Danny first started, he lacked a lot of the subtlety that Tyler had, and just didn't seem as natural. I'm curious to see how Tyler will fare with the other new guys.
I saw Tyler in the show 4 times, and he was wonderful. I've seen Danny 3 times, and I think he is just as wonderful. They have different takes on the role--which is a good thing--but they are both hysterically funny and in good voice.
Some of Tyler's bits were more effective than Danny's and some of Danny's are more effective than Tyler's. The important thing is that an actor bring something special to whatever role he/she is doing. To me, there is nothing more dull than having a "replacement" try to copy his/her predecessor. If I want to see the same performance over and over again, I can watch a movie.
Tyler got A LOT of the attention when he was in ABz. He was most often singled out by critics, nominated for awards, etc. Replacing him was a terrific challenge. Danny was the first actor to replace an original, and I think he has done an outstanding job.
He is also a lovely human being. I hope he has a fabulous career.
In response to Tyler having been changed by Altar Boyz fame, there was a time that he seemed to be a little ... bitchy, but nowadays, he is back to his old, sweet self. Give him another chance - everyone has their "star" moments.
...everyone has their "star" moments--
including a lot of people who are not "stars"!
saw the show for the first time last week. i never saw tyler and went into the show with a totally open mind. the place was packed, the crowd was so into it (best audience i've been apart of in years) and i LOVED the show. i thought danny was soooo great. i heard amazing things about tyler and would love to see him too... best of luck!
everything about the show seemed to be in really great shape (at least for that night)
ps - ian somerhalder was in the audience

Ahhh, Kevin Kern's last show with ABz and the show where the audience was at least half 13-16 year olds screaming their heads off. LOL Wow, do I remember that night well.. *rubs head*
I saw ABz with Danny in August, with most of the original cast, and I thought he DEFINITELY held his own. He was actually my favorite actor...and I recently saw it again with the new cast, and Danny "Toned" Mark down a little, and I didn't like it as much. But he (and Tyler!) are both very talented and both are great!

I believe that an actor should be judged by his performance. He doesn't owe anything to anyone off stage, so complaining about Tyler because he wasn't as nice as he used to be is really not what this is about.
Those who never saw Tyler really love Danny in the role and deservedly so. He's quite adorable. However, his Mark is an "over the top" version of Tyler's. Tyler glided through the show with seemingly no effort. The lines which are written are funny and don't need the histrionics that Danny gives them. I think Danny's cute too but Tyler nails it.
Well, it appears that Danny has chosen to leave ABoyz to take some time to rest and audition after six months of hard work. I can't wait to see what he does next.
And I think the new cast has a wonderful dynamic. Of course, I never saw the old cast, so I can't really compare, but now that the current cast has had the chance to grow and play and learn each other's rhythm, the show is a lot more cohesive, and they all complement each other and look like they have a blast up there.

Yes, an actor should be judged by his performance. That is the very reason I've made a point of seeing everything he is in.
People however should be judged by the way they treat others. Last I checked, Tyler was, in fact, a person, too.
To summarize: Tyler the actor is awesome; Tyler the person needs some work.
Thank you to the person who wrote to say I should give him a second chance...he's over his "star" moment. I will do that!

Thank you, Sigmund Freud. And I'm glad last time you checked Tyler was still a person. LOL!

Did anyone catch any of Tyler's first performances? Reviews please!
Everyone who saw him said he was in fine form.
Ah yes, the old "so and so didn't kiss my tush at the stage door so he's a terrible human being" debate.
No performer owes anything to the fan's other than the performance they paid to see. Anything more than that is above and beyond and not at all required. Meanwhile about Maynard stealing the show, seems to my eyes and reading comprehension level, it was Andy Karl and David Josefberg who went on to more good reviews for their subsequent work while Maynard was basically referred to as a one trick pony. I loved his performance and I think he's a swell guy but I never agreed with all the hype surrounding his performance. It was an ensemble piece and every one of those men had their stand-out moment. Now, when Andy goes back, I'll think about paying a visit again. Miracle Brothers, well let's just say, I'm still trying to recover.

you are gonna judge tyler as a result of one bad production? that seems a little harsh. Miracle Brothers was a wreck, but not at the fault of Tyler.
Wow I know this is a super old thread, but I did a search for Tyler because I'm currently in a show (Grease at Starlight Theatre in Kansas City) with Tyler and I wanted to see what everyone though of Tyler. He is Doody in the show and I instantly fell in love with him, he is SO talented.
I haven't had the chance to talk to him much, but he seems to be incredibly nice, along with Greg Reuter (he is returning to Spamalot next week when Grease is over). Hopefully his ego from ABz has died down.
Wow, I bet his MAGIC CHANGES will be gorgeous. What a perfect song for his range. Best of luck with your show!
Yes! Magic Changes is what caught my attention. It is absolutley perfect.

So that means he's only staying in MARY POPPINS for three months...that seems weird.
jboy1 honey, this thread was started last year. He returned this past January. He's in MP for the long haul.

I saw Tyler in Grease in Pittsburgh last month and he was amazing. His Those Magic Changes was just amazing. Also, he duets on Rock 'n' Roll Party Queen, which was amazing when I saw the show considering Curtis Holbrook played Roger and Tyler and Curtis sounded great together. I know Curtis isn't in the KC cast but Tyler was great in the part of Doody.
