Tyler Maynard performed his solo from ALTAR BOYZ at this year's Theatre World Awards, and as you can see in this video, he could barely make it through without gasping for air, having a lot of difficulty reaching the high notes that used to come so naturally to him.
His performance is about two-thirds way through the video.

BWW videos always freeze for me after 2 minutes. ugh.
While I agree his voice sounds a little shot, it is not the best performance to judge on. It's also different when you are doing the part 8 times a week and then doing it a few years later. just my opinion though.

probably because of all the damn smoking he does
Why I was having a snack outside TLM before a Sunday Mat. I know he smoke like 5 cigarettes in a 30 minute period.

I don't get why people who SING for a living even pick up smoking.

OMG you're right- worse than Sutton Foster and I never dremed that possible, but off key, no pitch, gasping for breath. Why did they idnetify him as Crol Lawrence and why was he singing "Someday"?
I actually thought he sounded fine, but I do wish he would stop smoking before he does loose that range. I know it must be hard, but I'm sure he's got lots of fans that would be behind him one hundred percent.

He sounded fine to me too. I think the gasping was done purposely... or, at least, he made it work.
The gasping was always part of that song.

I remember seeing The Wedding Singer and then seeing Richard Blake light up as soon as he hit the street corner. I was sort of shocked because in my mind all these Broadway stars were health freaks.
