UGLY Anastasia Artwork!!

http://moviemusicals.net/news.html#122205

WHY?? It doesn't look like her AT ALL!

Why not use this:

Original Anastasia Poster
"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

re: UGLY Anastasia Artwork!!

I hate everything that has to do with Anastasia. People don't even pronounce her name right. She didn't survive the murder.

And Rasputin wasn't the bad guy.

I hate how Disney warped the story to fit this romantic dream crap.

Though Disney often is the culprit of misconstruing history, in this case they are NOT at fault. I believe Anastasia was a FOX production.

re: UGLY Anastasia Artwork!!

Sorry to nitpick, Captain, but they never actually identified one set of the remains. Three of the four girls were killed, but no one knows if the escapee was Maria or Anastasia. Of course, it's more than likely that the body of the fourth girl was lost, but they have never found it.

That said, I loved this movie anyway. If you try to separate it from the real Russian revolution, it's pretty.

In real life, Anastasia was rather homely.

re: UGLY Anastasia Artwork!!

Yes, Anastasia was a 20th Century Fox production.

And in the bonus features of the current DVD, the director/writer/whoever states that it is not what happened, but a "what if she survived?" fictional story. Just like in the movie HOOK "what if Peter Pan grew up?" (except Peter Pan isn't history, it's fiction, but still...)

Frankly, I don't care about the historical innacuracy in the film. It's a BEAUTIFUL film and Ahrens & Flaherty provided a beautiful, memorable, simply fabulous score. I'd love to see it on the stage. I saw ANASTASIA ON ICE and it worked fine.

Nia - Sorry to nitpick, Captain, but they never actually identified one set of the remains. Three of the four girls were killed, but no one knows if the escapee was Maria or Anastasia. Of course, it's more than likely that the body of the fourth girl was lost, but they have never found it.

It is true that two bodies from the entire family are missing. In fact, it was Alexei's and one of the girls (Maria or Anastasia, although last I checked, I think they believed the found skeleton to be Anastasia's). HOWEVER, there were also entries and notes left behind about how two bodies were burned. It is a fact that they tried to cremate the bodies before burying them in a mudhole, but apparently, they only succeeded in burning two of them to nothing.

That's why those bodies are missing and ... will likely never be found.

That said, the real pronounciation of Anastasia is Ah-nnah-STAH-jhya.

/End tangent.

Anyway, beyond all that, the movie is enjoyable as long as it's not taken as historical fact. Rasputin may have been a creepy manwhore, but he wasn't like he'd been shown in the movie. re: UGLY Anastasia Artwork!! And the new art is... blech.

""It's a BEAUTIFUL film and Ahrens & Flaherty provided a beautiful, memorable, simply fabulous score."

It's a dumbed-down cartoon with a bland A&F score.

re: UGLY Anastasia Artwork!!

I always thought it was Olga or Maria's body that wasn't found. I remember reading several times that Anastasia's body was among the bodies.
