Woke up today with my inbox filled with emails from London theatres that are going to reopen soon and ticket sellers announcing on sale dates along with Japan opening Mamma Mia, and more, all while government officials in this country are banning mask mandates and covering up Covid cases.

Were so f*#ked.

Which theatres? Haven’t seen any news of this. Are we talking west end, fringe, or outdoors (which had been in the news)?

Totally agree with your last line JC

Melbourne had over 400 new cases yesterday, well over 1000 in a week and that's basically from 1 person going into high density communal dwellings.

The majority do the right thing, the rest go to rallies and refuse to listen.

The power of the Germ....crowded public transport/queues for the bathrooms/mosh pits and crowded dance floors/FUN, all disappearing so fast. Every single aspect of human interaction will change and to protest without knowledge will only dig a much deeper hole[better for the bodies but not humanity].

We need rules to survive.

Don't disagree with your last line. But, while UK theatres "can" re-open, whether they will still is up in the air, given capacity reductions.

It's more smoke and mirrors from Boris- if theatres "can" re-open, they can't claim financial support.  But the reality is that the reduced capacities will render the economics impossible for many producers.

Not to mention that any spike in infections will lead to a wild witch-hunt.

let's just remember that, on either side of the Atlantic, no one knows anything, announcements are hopes not truths, and there are folks with various complex agendas. Patience.

^In addition to the info in this article, it's worth noting that at all the protests I’ve been to, as well as the ones I’ve seen pictures and videos of, the protestors have consistently been wearing masks. And all organizers encourage protestors to wear masks, and they even hand them out to people if needed.

This is all to say that protests are not the issue here. The spread is owed much more to parties, bars, etc.

My understanding is most commercial theatres won’t be reopening because the social distancing restrictions are commercially unviable. But they are hoping in a couple more months it will be better.

When my goodbye post was removed: “but I had a great dramatic finish!!!!”
