Hmmmmm, you hated 'Fiddler' and 'La Cage' and loved 'Charity', 'Rent' and 'All Shook Up'? Let's just say you and I will never be theatre-going buddies (a fact which probably thrills you more than it does me). I guess that's why Baskin-Robbins makes 31 flavors. To each his own.

^ I can't believe you would ever put Charity in the same caliber as Rent and All Shook Up. You make it sound like Charity is a crappy jukebox musical. It's a classic. It's most certainly in the same caliber as Fidder and La Cage.

hushpuppy - instead of simply maligning my opinions, why don't you provide a rebuttal and inform me of qualities I might not have noticed from Fiddler and La Cage. I am interested to hear what you think, before I accept your dismissal of my theatrical preferences. Your comment reeks of a barely concealed snobbishness. And I don't understand the comment, "a fact which probably thrills you more than it does me".

Thanks. I love you too. Are you a boy? We should have boy-loving together. I'll whore myself to anyone who says they love me. This has been my downfall with many a rogue.

Great reviews and I also hated FOTR. Harvey was great in "Hairspray" but out of his league in "Fiddler". Now I want to see "Altar Boyz". I was interested in your opinion of ASU. I thought the singing was excellent, but I couldn't wait to get out of the theater. CHEYENNE JACKSON is hot!!

I'm glad you agree with me on the Harvey issue. As great as he is, I don't see him in many roles on Broadway, and I think he was super-lucky to be cast as Edna. With that show, I kinda feel it's a bit of 'The Emperor's New Clothes' syndrome. I'm the little kid who points out that the Emperor is actually naked and that Fiddler is actually pretty dire.

You have to see Altar Boyz, you will surely love it.

I don't know what you're talking about when you said it seemed like Eden Espinosa wanted to "run away" from fans at the stage door. Both times I've seen her at the stage door she's been incredibly nice and more than willing to sign playbills and take pictures with everyone.

Well, Sarah, hunny, I think I made it pretty clear what I was talking about. She was a snark. Perhaps you caught her on an nice day.

No actually I think you caught her on a bad day, hunny. Everyone I know who has seen her at the stage door has said that she was incredibly sweet.

Idont' need to see Charity to know I don't like it... I think that Christina Applegate makes a joke of the role, and she can't sing or dance. What kind of combination is that?

No, of course you don't need to see Sweet Charity.

Of course you may remain ignorant of what the show has to offer.

Of course you don't need to stop listening to your limited collection of 'modern'-sounding shows. Who needs to think outside their box?

Of course you needn't witness Applegate's bravura performance, and stand corrected on your previous comments - a set of comments which are laughably unsubstantiated given that you haven't even seen the show. If you have seen the show, and then still hold the same views, I would hold your opinions in higher regard.

Of course you needn't see a show that might encourage you to reconsider what you think of as good theatre.

Of course you needn't see (shock, horror - something that isn't RENT, Sondheim or Wicked? Can it be?!) a classic.

Of course, you may hold opinions based entirely NOT on your own experience, but recycled from other people's views of Christina's performance. Why bother to determine your own thoughts when you can borrow other people's?

excuse me? Where are you coming from? I have seen enough through clips of Christina and Sweet Charity and through her Tony performance to know enough about her. It's not as if I'm completely cluleless about the show. And second of all... you wouldn't know what shows that I listen to, and regardless of your opinion I do not tire of the musicals I listen to. And it has nothing to do with seeing a revival... I'm excited for Sweeney Todd, but apparently you can't get it through your thick head.

In regard to "Altar Boyz"--I heard Tyler Maynard was leaving the show because he didn't want to be typecast as "gay."

Ahem.

You've seen the show--does he have anything to worry about?

Kanga, you are excused.

Haha....anyway, to answer your comments...

I was drawing inspiration from your signature and profile, in which you profess the greatness of Wicked, Rent, Sutton Foster et al...Obviously because you say you excited for Sweeney Todd, that instantly marks you down as a connoisseur of high art. I must remember to add this qualifier to every post I make, in order to mark myself as a member of the elite.

About you knowing the show...unless the clips you have seen were bootlegs, or rather much longer than any of the clips I have seen, they're hardly long enough to get a good impression of the show. A 30 second promo does not a preview make.

And as for the Tony performance...let's just cast our minds back to Idina's performance of Defying Gravity...that was hardly representative of her skill as a performer. You must agree?

*****

Roquat - that boy has EVERYTHING to worry about...

I'm not saying anything except: gay, gay, gay as a goose.

I think you define "asshole" if you base your opinion on Christina from a 3 minute Tony clip. That is frickin ridiculous. She is SOOO much better in the theater. Some of the critics raved, and a lot of them gave her credit where due - she is a delightful, and charming Charity.

I just really HATE people who judge a performer without seeing them in the show. It pisses me off so much.

I hate people like that.

I agree with your statement about Idina Menzel, but I'm not the type of person who can afford to go see a show that doesn't appeal to me. If, out of all of the clips I've seen don't make a show appeal to me... then why would I spend my money on a show that I might not enjoy? I try to get information about Broadway shows through clips and such becuase I don't live in the city nor do I have the money to go and just see a bunch of musicals. I'm sorry if I came off the wrong way, and I am sorry that I criticized without seeing the show... I really don't want to fight and I apologize for insulting the both of you

Okay, it it one thing if you don't want to see a show because it just dosen't simply appeal to you. That is fine. It's another thing if you say the a performer can't dance or sing, and makes a joke out of the role - when you haven't seen it. That is absolutely ridiculous. Anyway - if you knew much about the show - you would know Christina was the only "star" to pass the dance audition for the show, and she has had much dance training. She is still dancing on a broken foot, and she was performing to a faster tempo on the Tonys, which made it more difficult.

But I'm not going to get on your case if you don't want to see the show because it dosen't appeal to you. That is fine. I just don't think it's right to go judging a performer without seeing them in the show.

You needn't sound sheepish (have conviction but know when to back down), and you didn't offend me at all. I enjoy debate. I appreciate your position fully and your idea of evaluating a show thropugh previews to ensure you buy your tickets wisely is sensible.

I think the reason I founf your post distasteful was that you kinda implied that seeing the clip was as good as seeing the show and made your point about Christina as if the clip told you enough to slate her as an actor.

Anyway, I recommend the show, and it's on TKTS right now so if you get a chance see it, although if you haven't seen Rent, Hairspray or Wicked, I think you'd prefer those.

Adios, amigo/a
