This is Brilliant Marketing and exactly what has made this show successful with such a long run...After seeing the play, I loved it! But it's hard to get butts in the seats when there aren't big names and flashy musical numbers - it's relied all on word of mouth and marketing. This makes perfect sense and feels planned all along! Now they can make fun of wrong closing dates and being the longest running play there.

I wonder if they’ll start to give a speech after the show on August 26th saying that it’s the last show, only to have someone rush on stage to tell them that it’s not closing on that day anymore... or something similar, making a joke about it pretty much...
I also think The Nance with Nathan Lane did very well here. I LOVE the Lyceum. I love the marquee - it's so understated and elegant - to the outside to the inside with its purples and grey. I love the big fire place in the lower lounge - which they don't use - and I kind of love the weird, creepy balcony. I think the whole thing needs a bit of a refurbishment. But I think it's great. And it's literally in Times Square, so I don't see why the location is bad at all. Again, if the product is good, people will go. Trust, if Hamilton was playing in the Broxn, it would still be a hot ticket.
We just watched Peter Pan Goes Wrong (hilarious, but not as good as this show) and we got to talking about The Play that Goes Wrong and were having a disagreement about a scene. Which character does "The Ledger" bit? I was thinking it was the detective, but daughter thought the butler. We saw it early in its run so our memories are cloudy.
Son just chimed in and said it was the Butler.
The ledger bit is with the detective!

I'm so happy to hear this--my 52 year old memory beating out the kids!
