Coming to NYC for my Bi-yearly trip next month, and have started making my list of what shows I should see, and I thought I would ask BWW for their input!!
Questions: Which ones are not worth seeing? Which ones are absolute MUSTS? Other show suggestions?
Was last in the city in December, so I have already seen everything that opened in the first half of the season (Shrek, Billy Elliot, etc...) Also, saw 9 to 5 in LA. Is it worth seeing again in NYC?
Here's the list:
Accent on Youth
Samuel J Freidman Theatre
Blithe Spirit
Shubert Theatre
Chicago the Musical (with Dr. Bailey!)
Ambassador Theatre
Exit the King
Barrymore Theatre
Guys and Dolls
Nederlander Theatre
Hair!
Al Hirshfield Theatre
Irenas Vow
Walter Kerr Theatre
Next to Normal
Booth Theatre
Rock of Ages
Brooks Atkinson Theatre
Waiting for Godot
Studio 54
West Side Story
Palace Theatre
The Toxic Avenger
New World Stages
TWELFTH NIGHT
Shakespeare in the Park
Thoughts?????? I can most likely only see 10 or 11 of them, as I will only be in the city for a week.
Thanks for your input!!

West Side Story is only semi-worth it. It could be another 30 years before it's revived again. That's one reason to go. To say "I saw West Side Story on Broadway". But, this revival is pretty flawed with some standout performances.
I think Toxic Avenger looks hilarious but I haven't seen it yet.
I, of course, have to throw in my prerequisite recommendation of Marvelous Wonderettes.

I ran a theater trip to Rock Of Ages this weekend.
After the show I had many people say to me- that they liked it better then HAIR.

Posted: 5/5/09 at 3:36am33 Variations NOT on the OPs list AND it won't be open. It closes in two weeks (or so) and a few days early at that.

I have not seen Hair, but it is doing quite well and is a hit on Broadway now. I love the music.
I have seen Guys & Dolls. I went because I am a huge Lauren Graham and Gilmore Girls fan. I was a little bored at the production, but was sitting in the front row and had to crane my neck up most of the time. I think it would have been partly more enjoyable had I sat further back. Oh, and I think the Nederlander is too small for the production - the theater is really cramped.
