I have heard from a board member of Hartford Stage that Anastasia is now aiming to open before of after next year's Tony's. I'm not sure how long before or after but that's what I heard.

It has to be before right? What the heck good would it do to open soon after the Tonys? Also, before the Tony's would match what a previous poster said about Anastasia taking the Broadhurst after The Front Page.
I just hope Anastasia isn't next year's Tuck Everlasting.

After having seen it at Hartford, it looks like to me it will enjoy a long and healthy commercial life on Broadway. There are a few kinks to work out before it arrives, but it is 95% there already; beautiful set design, well directed, great cast, incredible costumes, and great music.

Then why the almost one year wait to transfer? There should be plenty of theater vacancies before then so that's what I don't get.

I would just think that a winter opening would be a better bet for both money reasons and the show's health but perhaps I'm wrong. Delaying an opening until just before the Tonys makes me nervous because then you have a small group of people completely controlling the fate of your show.

Has it closed ? Caroline O'Connor is due to start rehersals any day now for Funny Girl in Melbourne--a short 2 week season at end of July---can't wait as her Gypsy was sensational.
