Hey -
So, I'm broke. Does anyone know how to get into the ushers union? I'm not entirely sure how to go about doing this/where the office would be/what the number is, etc.
If anyone can help me out I'd be very grateful ![]()
Thanks in advance,
~Sarah
You can ask any of the ushers in the theatres...I can't remember the office code...it's P...11 something I think....it's in the yellow pages.
call the nederlander org. you have to start out training and then subbing. Then they usually find a perm. house for you to work at. I believe after working 3 or 4 full shows you get to join the union..i could be wrong though. But, like any other union, you still have to pay to get in.
I talked to an usher at the majestic about it and she said the summer was really the worst time for the union because so many shows close, etc. so maybe you might wanna wait till september.
You just need to get in with one of the theatre owners--Shubert, Nederlander, or Jujamcyn. If you can get hired as an usher with any of them, you merely join the union after 30 performances. The hard part is getting hired--the union part is very simple.
