I hate Raul's vibrato.
Norm Lewis and Philip Quast have it...
Eric Kunze has it and I hate it.
Tony Roberts!
Orfeh, sometimes.
LAURA BENANTI .
MICHAEL BALL.

Posted: 9/29/08 at 9:45pmI would hardly consider Laura Benanti a queen of vibrato.

MICHAEL BALL.
I've heard him described as sounding like he's sitting on a washing machine on spin cycle. I love his vibrato, though.
BNN-- I still have nightmares about Betsy Joslyn as Johanna in "Sweeney Todd!"
Lea Salonga has pretty fierce vibrato.
I really love Sean Palmer's vibrato. There's nothing that notable about it, but something about it just makes me so happy. Susan Egan has lovely vibrato as well.

Douglas Sills has amazing vibrato. Christine Andreas has CRAZY vibrato-- I personally don't like her voice, though I know a lot of people do-- and when they sing duets together on the Scarlet Pimpernel recording, it's like SUPER-VIBRATO.

Posted: 9/30/08 at 8:54amBetsy Joslyn gives me a headache. I usually have to skip over "Green Finch and Linnet Bird" when I watch my Sweeney recording.

CAROLEE CARMELLO.
I know she's already been said, but all others pale in comparison to that vibrato!

Posted: 9/30/08 at 12:20pmJulia Murney is the first person that comes to mind when I hear the word vibrato. As is Eden Espinosa even though I was listening to her in Brooklyn and she didn't have it then.

Even though it bothers me a little bit sometimes, I think Carollee Carmello takes the crown.
Also Raul Esparza, and Norm Lewis

Um...vibrato...what about it? It's a healthy component of good singing. It can be objectionable, certainly. But what does it mean to be a "king or queen" of vibrato? Wide vibrato? Fast? Slow? Pleasant? Unpleasant?
All these names people are posting: Are these people you find good or bad, in terms of vibrato?
There's a lot to discuss about vibrato as a component of singing, and I see a little of that going on here, but this thread seems really unfocused. Pretty much every singer on Broadway has vibrato. Why don't you start a thread about noses or ears? They've all got those, too.

I have to put out one of my favorite German musical theatre performers:
Thomas Borchert.
#24re: VIBRATO!!!!!!
Posted: 9/30/08 at 3:08pmSparrman: What I'm getting from this thread is performers who have a very distinct and probably wide vibrato. There is a definite wobble, I guess you could say, to their voices that happens constantly not just when they hold extended notes or end a musical phrase. Its present all the time. That's what I got from the thread and why I mentioned Carolee Carmello, who I do like a lot btw along with many of the other performers mentioned.
