Has anyone seen Vanessa Williams in either Kiss of the Spider Woman or Into the Woods on Broadway? If so, does she sign autographs after the show at the stage door?
I am going to see her at the Palace Theatre in December and would love to get her autograph after the show. I have front row tickets and I'm very excited to see her. I have seen her twice in concert years ago in Boston where I live. This will be the first time I have seen a "concert" on Broadway. Will they give out Playbills when they seat you?
Thanks for your help!

Posted: 11/14/04 at 10:28pmI didn't even think the show was good, I was so disappointed. Nearly all of the brilliant comedy was lost, and for me, the only good things about the show were Chad Kimball and Laura Benanti. I was shocked that OKLAHOMA didn't win the Tony, I thought that production was beautiful.

She was good in SPIDER WOMAN, but that's not a role that requires a lot of acting. Aurora doesn't have very complex motivations, to say the least.
Her witch was not very inspired, but then again, nothing about that production was (other than Ms. Benanti).
On the other hand, she was extremely moving in ST. LOUIS WOMAN at Encores. For me, the jury is still out regarding Vanessa Williams.

Posted: 11/15/04 at 8:33amI saw Kiss Of The Spider Woman, twice. Once In Toronto with Chita and then in New York with Vanessa. Vanessa suited the role more than Chita and she gave a sexy and breathtaking perfromance. The show made more sense. I finally got the show when I saw it with Miss Williams, before that I felt the show was just an excuse to showcase Miss rivera's talents. Updated On: 11/15/04 at 08:33 AM

while no one asked...I LOVED the into the woods revival...it had all the humor and packed a much larger emotional punch than did the original...everyone just needs to get over that they've seen the original on video... I doubt y'all would have these opinions if you'd never seen the show before... I thought the revival was more rounded...meaning it wasn't about anybody... everybody got a moment(in the woods)...true Vanessa Williams wasn't very good...she was servicable...she sang the role well...and the witch isn't the lead and it shouldn't be a star turn... her performance just made that clear... and she like WONDERFUL in that red dress...which is really about all we can ask from a fallen beauty queen.

Vanessa is a doll & very talented. I saw her in KOTSW & ITW.
I enjoyed both though Kiss was a better production.
As for your question, yes she does sign autographs.
I saw Kiss 3 times (once with Chita twice with Vanessa)& I saw Woods once, each time there was a huge crowd out side the stage door & she stayed until each & every fan had there autograph.
SHE IS HOT!!!!!!

to answer the original question, the crowd was fairly big outside the ITW stage door
she signed but couldn't get to everyone

She was very nice when I met her outside of Into the Woods. There wasn't a big crowd at all, though. She posed for a picture with me. Very sweet woman.
By the way, I loved every second of the Into the Woods revival and it remains my favorite show. Don't judge it by the recording. Boo to you naysayers.

Thanks for your responses.
I never did see Into The Woods. It sounds like I didn't miss much at all. I also didn't see Kiss of the Spider Woman.
I have been a huge fan of Vanessa's music and movie career for a long time. In concert, she was amazing. I first saw her as the opening act at a Luther Vandross concert and then a few years later headling her own concert. She looked and sounded beautiful.
I'm going to wait by the stage door after the show at the Palace hoping that she comes out to sign autographs. I'm looking forward to the show. I am also going to see the matinee of Wicked the same day. I've heard so much about it and can't wait to see it. It's going to be a great trip to NYC!

Posted: 11/15/04 at 9:54pmThe Vanessa Williams "Into the Woods" revival was just a stupid mistake. They tried to make a show that was written strictly for adults into a "family" show, which just didn't work. If it ain't broke, don't fix it, ya know?

I have nothing to compare it to, but I liked the Into the Woods revival and Vanessa's performance in it. I got her autograph after the show and she was very sweet; there weren't too many people there so she got to everyone and was incredibly nice.
Enjoy Wicked, too!

Vueve, may I just say...your Icon made my night better...
Vanessa signs autographs and she's pretty nice but once you see her upclose you might not believe that she uses her Proactiv Skincare Line....
I personally loved Into The Woods, that's just me.
OKLAHOMA was like a bad dream that would not end.
