Apparently a lot of Criss talking did not make it into the final video; hence the short run time. The link to the transcript of the video has a lot more of him speaking.

Surely there would’ve been a publicist in the room to steer them away from topics that wouldn’t be able to end up in the final product, no?

If you read the print interview, everything he talked about was pretty innocuous (he talks about his kids, generic MHE stuff). It really just looks like shoddy editing, resulting in Darren pretty much interviewing Cole and not a mutual convo.
