adamgreer-
I wasn't arguing ticket sales. And I still think more casual theatregoers would know Kerry Butler's name before they'd know Aaron Tveit.

That probably depends on how much the show gets reworked before it transfers. If they scrap the variety show framing device (which a lot of people have identified as haphazard and lazy at best), then I assume they would have to make some substantial revisions to the set, perhaps even put the orchestra back in the pit.

The set looks ugly as hell. Hopefully they change it.

The set is horrible. And by set I mean LED screen and a cheap Christmas tree.
I will be happy to purchase the cast recording and pretend that McNally's book doesn't exist.

It could end up like THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE, which was also based on a successful movie, came into NY without a 'bankable star' (Sutton who?) and went on to develop good word of mouth, win the Tony, and have a respectable run.
And be the only Best Musical Tony winner in a decade that flopped?

NOBODY JONES is my new favorite name.
I'm sure a lot of money has been spent on the set,
I am pretty sure it will remain mostly intact.

I saw the show on Saturday night and there were some really great moments in it...but there is a lot of work that needs to be done to it if it is going to do well on Broadway.
My random thoughts...and these are just MY opinions:
The cast is fantastic without exception. The book needs some work, especially in the second act (a lot that was good about the movie was brushed over or rushed through). The sing along "Bury Me Beside the One I Love" needs to go in the worst way (as well as a few others). "Fly, Fly Away" is the best song in the show but there are other great ones like "Live in Living Color" and "Butter Outta Cream." The orchestra needs a pit and there needs to be more of a design for the Broadway production. I HATED the idea of the LED background before the show but it didn't bother me at all. The costumes were great. The TV variety show idea is great but should be developed more (I usually HATE when the break the wall, but it worked here. It got to be a little much in thesecond act when Frank Jr. was in bed with a woman basically talking to the orchestra). I loved how the show ended....very unique and didn't expect it.
