It seems like Priscilla and supposedly Wicked has and are doing trials for permanent Vegas productions for the future. It was discussed on here before that Spiderman could work and would be more successful to a Vegas audience way more than a Broadway audience ever will be. Has anyone heard anything about future resident productions? What productions do you think would work and would you like to see in Vegas?

Kinky Boots would probably do well in Vegas. Jersey Boys would be great in vegas also. I have always thought that FELA would do much better in a town like Vegas.

Jersey Boys has been playing at the Paris for awhile after transferring from the Palazzo. Lots have done residencies in the past ten years: Chicago, Mamma Mia, Lion King, Phantom, Hairspray, and the Producers are the first to come to mind. Wicked would do really well at MGM Grand - it's all green :P

Call me crazy but for some reason I think BILLY ELLIOT would work really well in vegas

No, it wouldn't. Vegas audiences are already drunk and/or full from their giant steak dinners; don't make them try to decipher accents too!

I say this as someone who used to live in California and saw Phantom three or four times and Jersey Boys maybe a dozen. It's fun there, but the audiences aren't going to see a Broadway show on the Strip and expect to think too hard. Sure, locals at the Cashman maybe, but not the Strip.

I was thinking that Wicked would actually do really well in Vegas. I would love to see something different, like some classic run there (Evita, Anything Goes, etc). Not really sure if it would go well with the attendance though.

Has that already ran in Vegas before? That could work, but as long as it's not like the 2009 revival that basically everyone disliked

I Think Priscilla just screams Vegas to me, HOWEVER, if they butcher the show up like they Did Hairspray, I most likely would not see it- I hate when they cut down shows, especially ones that are great the way they are, Messing with a show that is already great, you can often take away things that made it that way- LEAVE IT BE! I get that Vegas audiences won't like shows that are as along as Broadway Shows are- at least I guess that is the reason shows are always cut when they come to Vegas, but still...

I actually just saw Jersey Boys at the Paris last night. Great show and cast. I've seen the show before and I loved this production of it. The crowd was great because they were loud, probably a little drunk, and into it. For a show like Wicked, I don't know if it would be the same. Like Lizzie said earlier Vegas isn't looking for a heavy show. They want some fun. Priscilla might be good, but Wicked while Defying Gravity would be fun, I don't think works for a Vegas crowd. But its just my opinion.

Has anyone heard anything about Book of Mormon? I can defiantly see that being successful, especially with the humor and all. It looks like it's playing at the Smith Center next summer, I would guess it would be a trial?

I know the tour is going there at some point this year. I think a long run would work. This show sells out everywhere so a long run would make sense.

I'm kind of surprised Wicked hadn't played in Vegas at all before. I do think it could do well there, if slightly cut down like Jersey Boys (not a lot like Phantom).

Okay even though a lot of people on these boards hate this show, Motown would do really well in Vegas.

Motown defiantly will, I was thinking about that the other day.

It should, some of that music was very defiant. "What's Goin' On?"

I love when shows defiantly do things. Don't back down shows, do what you want, live your dreams!

If you look at all the successful shows that are playing Vegas, they are all spectacle. There's little to no "story." The Cirque shows are just visually amazing, etc. So, I don't think a Broadway show is ever going to really take off.

How is Rock of Ages doing at the Venetation, I keep seeing promotions.

If Wicked was shortened and redesigned to be more of a "spectacle" like Phantom in Vegas was, I could see it doing well. Build a custom theatre designed to look like the inside of the Clock of the Time Dragon and add some more effects. That might make the show somewhat bearable even!
